I'm curious what most the people on this forum think and it's something I ask my friends/family about all the time. I personally do not wish to be immortal. I'd love to live a really long time and see some cool shit, but I actually look forward to getting old and dying. No I don't believe in any form of after life, so that might sound kind of grim to some of you guys. Anyways, where do you guys stand on the whole immortality thing?

I'll take it. Do everything I could possibly want to do. Then focus on getting us off earth.

You have all the time(literally) to dig yourself out so what does it matter?

uh put immortal person in casket, put on some locks, bury said casket 50 feet into the ground?

(c'mon man, this was done in Heroes!)

You have all of time to escape so what does it matter? You aren't thinking like an immortal.

I just want to live as long as my grandfather. He went from the steam age to watching man land on the moon and was as excited about it as I was.

Wait... you mean I don't?
:(

But really there would have to be some stipulations with it, as after universe had ended you would still be floating around in a darkness beyond what most could imagine.

As such it would have to come with abilities of creation. :p

So immortality plus said creation abilities would be nice.

Oh and one would also need an increasing intelligence and memory, unless you plan on being the immortal village idiot even a few 100 years from now. Possibly even being able to take on different forms, as different species gain sentience and power.

living in a casket for 1000000 years until you are able to escape = living in hell to me.

you don't have super powers...right?

I mean there’s only so many ways to bust out of a locked casket 50 feet underground…and the only one I know of is with the assistance of a time traveling geek.

Well we are creators so... your point? Are you talking about energy to matter(and vice versa) kind of creation powers? If so you are immortal why not just use your brain in all of its glory to create the tools necessary to harness that kind of power?

Also, why would you even care about doing it now or in 1000 years from now? You're immortal, why would any one time be better than the next? See this is where I run into problems with immortality.

The kind where you can regenerate or the kind where you do not heal?

You are perpetually in the state you are currently in. If you get evaporated from existence you just reappear because you cannot not exist, you are immortal.

How old are you, out of curiosity?

I mean matter and energy, as given enough time there will no longer be sources emitting energy, and the temperature gradient will no longer be high enough to extract energy from.
Basically heat death of the universe.

With enough time atoms will begin to break down, then what's inside them as well.

Possibly, but how long is that estimated to happen from now? You have from now until then to figure it out.

Not if I'm the only one who has it. I've no wish to see everyone I know die while I have to go forever.
