Do you wipe the top of canned drinks?

I have no idea why I started doing this (maybe a year ago?), but I just noticed that I use the bottom of my shirt to wipe the can opening and the rim in front of it before I drink a canned drink.

Anyone else do this?

Yeah unless if I know it's fresh out of the case or something. Not cleaning it is like drinking out of a dirty cup.

I used to work at a grocery store distribution warehouse moving pallets, loading trucks etc... in high school. Basically if you dont wash the top of the can before drinking, you are going to be tasting the bottom of my boots with every sip.

Also, many of those warehouses are just flat out infested with rats, mice and other vermin/pests. Look up Leptospirosis and see if that sounds appetizing to you...

I'd be willing to bet that a high percentage of people who never wipe the top of the can, religiously check the 'best if used by' date and refuse to purchase it if it's passed.

Nope. My immune system works.
Also, if its really dirty I will wash it. But I prefer bottles to cans because they dont affect the taste.

What's funny about your taste comment is that with soft drinks, I've always thought that it tasted best out of a can. With beer, I always buy the bottles. I think beer tastes like shit when it's in a can.

I guess a soft drink out of a glass bottle would be best. I can't even remember the last time I had a coke from a glass bottle.

You're in luck!

Around christmas many places have coke in glass bottles.
Also, good root beer is often found in glass, not plastic.

If it looks dirty, then yeah. If it looks clean, no.

Between homicidal motor vehicle operators, overzealous airport security crews, zombie apocalypses, roving bands of bloodthirsty chinchillas, and Mayan doomsday predictions, a dirty soda can is the least of my worries.

It depends. I've had some really great beers out of a can (like Ska Brewing, from Durango, CO). I've never really noticed a big enough taste difference to warrant buying soda in glass instead of aluminum.

Plastic bottles are not good for long term storage, as gases slowly leak out through the bottle. Glass is good for long term, but obviously heavy and brittle, relative to plastic or aluminum.

If there's visible dirt on there sure. But a damp towel is not going to sterilize the bacteria that cause things like Leptospirosis if present. Gonna need to carry around sterilizing wipes for those you germaphobes!

I just twist the can a few times under my nuts. Feels good then no worry about germs.

haha, so true.

I've lost the habit of wiping the top of the can, but I don't really drink soda anymore, which is probably 95% of my my can consumption.
