Just curious as to the percentage of users here who use their seatbelt. I don't quite understand the reason behind NOT wearing it. Unless that is one of you has a valid reason (besides how its uncomfortable - like putting your melon through the windshield would be much more comfortable).

Yes but not because It's the law.....I just have this thing about my sternum being crushed against the steering wheel in case of an accident....

Yes, it's a habit that will also save you from getting a ticket from Johnny Law.

My little cousin and his father do not wear seatbelst because they don't think they are "cool" Now if that is not the most ridiculous thing you have ever heard please tell me, they don't think it is cool to be safe? no one even sees you wearing it, I mean comeon show a little flicker of intelligence, whenever they ride with me, they know that they WILL be wearing a seatbelt.

Yes - As does anyone else that wants to ride in my car. In Washington State - not wearing your seat belt is now an offense that an officer can now pull you over for. It's always been against the law, but before they could not pull you over for only not wearing your seat belt.

I was once t-boned in a 1974 ford van. The impact knocked me out of the seat and onto the floor between the seats. Still holding onto the steering wheel and with my foot on the gas I saw the world going around from a different perspective.

<----worn a seat belt ever since.

I personally consider people who don?t wear seat belts to be uneducated and lacking in pedigree. They don?t look ?cool?; rather, they appear unrefined and uncivilized.

Guy at work's ex-wife got in an accident about a decade ago and wasn't wearing one and it was bad and she then started wearing it. A few months ago she got in another one and for some reason wasn't wearing her belt again. He said the crack in the windshield was the shape of her skull. She is "ok", but if you don't wear a seatbelt I've said it before and I'll say it again: You're an IDIOT.

Didn't used to when I was younger. Of course, this was before it was mandatory. Then, I wore it because my mom would get a ticket if I didn't. Now, it's just habit and I don't feel safe without it on.

The first answer in your poll should read, Yes. I have somewhat greater intelligence than a slug and I want to survive my next encounter with a cell phoning idiot soccer mom in her SUV.

<< I wonder how many states mandate the use of seatbelts? >>

i think only either Vermont or NH is the only one that doesn't require it as a primary or secondary law. i don't remember which.

I always wear a seat-belt because my car has automatic seat-belt, and I feel weird when I sit in a car and I don't have a seat belt on.

It's pretty much automatic for me, I don't even think about it. Get into car, close door, put seatbelt on. I even find myself doing it for simple things like moving the car from the garage to the curb or vice versa. And for the passengers who ride with me, the car doesn't move until everyone is buckled up!

I always wear a seatbelt. A friend of mine was not wearing one and he was thrown out of the vehicle. People said that if he was wearing one he would have been killed since the truck flipped and crushed the cab from the top down. Regardless I feel safe with a seatbelt.

I feel too loose if I don't put it on... meaning I'd be flopping around in the driver's seat on every turn I make...

when i was 16 i fell asleep at the wheel, about 1am
i was wearing a lap belt (old car, 1973 station wagon)
my friend wasn't wearing a seat belt

when i hit the telephone pole, i bumped my knee, didn't get hurt really
my friend shattered the windshield with his head/face, not a good thing

i have always wore and required ALL passengers in any vehicle i am driving to wear seat belts, sometimes you learn the hard way, but at least it was early in my life and my friend got better

Yeah, I think it's usually going to be safest to stay with the vehicle until it comes to rest. They've got roll over standards in regular cars these days, so that roof-crushing problem is not so much of a problem to car drivers.

Always wear it. Been wearing it since my college days. Saved me from cracking some ribs in a Mustang once (ended up with a bruised sternum from the plastic emblem in the middle of the steering wheel when some moron pulled out in front of me and I t-boned her at about 45mph.
