Do you volunteer your time anywhere?

In my search to do something meaningful with my pathetic little life, I was thinking about volunteering somewhere. I'm not really sure where though, so I need ideas. Also, with work/school I don't have a lot of free time - only a couple of days a week, so that's also a factor.

I used to volunteer a lot while I was in the Air Force, as a matter of fact it was highly encouraged by my commander. Most of the volunteer work was done on the clock as well. =) Christmas in april was a big project, basically it was helping out poor families with minor home repairs, landscaping, etc. We also pitched in to help build a huge ass top-of-the-line playground. There are also soup kitchens and meals for the elderly.

If one or two hours is all you can spare, I'm sure someone can find a place for you to lend a hand.

I volunteer for the local Crohn's and Colitis chapter. The amount of volunteer hours varies, however it's usually at least a couple of hours per week. If we have events going on, then those hours obviously go up...

I volunteer as a YMCA soccer coach. About 3 hours a week. Not too bad and I love working with kids.

I used to volunteer allot and loved it. Then I moved to Arkansas.. People here look at welfare, social security disabilities payments and free handouts not only as a way of life but the ONLY way of life.. Over the holidays we still do a little but it's so depressing. :( Mainly I just give money to the Salvation Army, the only real charitable organization left..

Too busy neffing here :) .

I just give money to Northwest Harvest, which supplies Washington state food banks.

I really enjoyed working for Habitat for Humanity. So many times at work it's hard to see the end result of your daily tasks, but when you're building a house the end result comes much faster and it looks like you really made a difference when you're done at the end of the evening.

Last summer, I'd work 7-5, then work from 5-9 at the house pretty much four days a week.

I'm going to try and get on another crew this coming summer hopefully.

I volunteer 3 hours a week as an adult literacy tutor. It's pretty satisfying. It's much better than complaining about the educational system. And it's also more helpful than giving out change.
