Do you use your Vita?

I was thinking about pre-ordering the PS Vita/AC Liberation bundle in November. I would also want to get a 32GB memory card. This would bring the total price to around $340 which is a bit of an investment for me.

I was wondering if there are any Vita owners here, and if so do you get much use out of your system? What are the games that keep you coming back to the system?

Let's just say that if you're worried about there being too many good games to play, then buying a Vita won't add to your troubles.

Vita owner here. I don't play it much only because I don't spend much time playing any game right now. Contrary to what people are saying there are a lot of good games out and a few good games on the horizon.

32 games witha Metacritic over 70

Zero Escape came out this week and is averaging a 9 or higher.

In the next few weeks:
Assassin's Creed
Ragnarok Odyssey
Persona 4
PS All-Stars
Need for Speed
Call of Duty (Probably shitty)

Research the games and the total cost to decide if buying one is for you. There is plenty of game time to be had if you buy the games and have the time to play.

Right now I'm playing LBP and Sound Shapes. I have probably six more games I have barely touched. I also use it for Twitter and Netflix while laying in bed, the screen is a nice size.

I have an iPad as well, so it probably wouldn't be used for any of that stuff, but it's a nice to have none the less. Honestly I don't see where all the complaints are coming from about lack of content. Some I'm interested in are

-Uncharted
-AC Liberation
-LBP Vita
-Wipeout 2048
-Super Stardust Delta

Along with the cross play stuff like NFS:MW and the upcoming Sly Cooper game.

Well, I have Soundshapes for PS3 and it is worthy of purchase. If you don't have a PS3, then you can add Soundshapes to the value of the Vita.

I have a PS3 as well. Though part of the appeal for me is the cross platform play, especially with some titles coming out with cross buy (meaning you buy the console version and you get the vita version for free).

Haha, yep. Though I did enjoy LBP a lot. It's definitely the best game in the series. Vita though is suffering the same issue that the PSP did; poor software support. There's still no killer app for it. Now that Sony has lost the exclusivity to Monster Hunter, things aren't looking good.

i just got my copy of LBP from the taco bell promotion that i won months ago.

if anyone wants it for $30 shipped it is yours. it's brand new sealed.

I do, mostly for the pinball games though (Zen Pinball 2 and Pinball Arcade). I did pick up LBP though and it's fun. Sound Shapes was also good. Most of the best games are just PSN downloads from what I've seen.

I got mine lightly used for $150 when it was still new and full price in stores, which seems to still be a decent price today. Not sure it's worth over $300 but the AC game might be really good and worth it. I'm glad I have it but I'm also glad I got it used for a good price.

Those pinball games are available on iOS as well. Sound shapes looks really cool too, but if I really wanted to play it I could get it on PS3 as well.

The pinball games are also playable on the PS3 if you get the Vita version, so that's part of the appeal. Plus good visuals and actual trigger buttons.

I just got my vita, used, and I am in shock at the prices of the memory, and confabulated that no one is making aftermarket cheaper ram,... other wise i reallly like it. just wish the games were MORE and worker like what the wiiu is going to go, seems that sony has every thing in place, just WAY BETTER. they need to get on the ball. Ill be getting the ALL STARS just to see how it works and hope it makes them make more of the same.

absolutely, the coolest handheld. just if i can get skype working, ... ill be using it ALOT more. like i said i just got it. My gf LOVES the flowers game. I may buy me the assassins creed one, and give her mine if skype works out. Just wish the ram was cheaper.

I'm going to nitpick here... you're not buying ram. Ram is the internal memory used to cache data of what you're currently running for faster access. Ram doesn't store data and it only works when it's powered, and when the device is off the ram is empty.

You're just buying a memory card.

This seems to be the major complaint with the Vita. The memory cards use chips equivalent to cheap Class 6 microSD cards. Based on that, the Vita cards have up to an astonishing 75% markup on them. It was a dick move by Sony to use proprietary cards. Feels like a major step backwards. Even the PSP's memory sticks were at least compatible with other items and not THAT much more expensive than SD.

People looking to buy a Vita would be best served getting the Assassin's Creed bundle, which includes game and 4gb memory card for $250. Best Buy Canada is also giving away a $50 gift card if you buy it online. So you can walk away with a Vita for just 200 bucks.

I bought a PSP a few years ago and never ended up playing it much. There are some good looking games on the Vita, but nothing that you couldn't live without. $340 seems pricey, you could get an iPad Mini, which has a ton of games and is great for casual internet use/etc. Just a thought.

There are no buttons on the ipad, which by itself means it's an inferior gaming device. There are many games you simply need tactile feedback for.

I also had a poor experience with the PSP, and would put the Vita above it. Mainly because there's a few cheaper PSN games you can get on the Vita that are very good, where as there weren't cheap games on the PSP for quite some time. The Vita is still struggling in a similar way, but where I sold my PSP I don't think I'll be selling my Vita. Or if I do it'll take a lot longer.

This. I have an iPad 3 as well, and I use it a lot, but for gaming it's not great. There are a few good time wasters, but any "real games" get annoying with touch screen controls.

For me, it's a pretty expensive PSOne emulator. I still keep it instead of getting a PSP because the design is far superior and the off chance that it ever gets hacked so you can run Android on it (the internal hardware is actually quite good).

$340?

😕

I get the feeling that many o' Vitas will be turning on for the first time in awhile tonight. 😉

I'm going to nitpick here... the definition of random access memory is just that you can access any of the data locations in the same amount of time. So, yes... the vita memory cards are technically RAM. Although, the term "RAM" has become rather ubiquitous with the fourth level of computer cache (not counting registers) or what's commonly considered the first off-die storage medium. 😛

While touch-only devices aren't really suited for some games -- as much as developers insist on trying -- I do think that they work fairly well when the input method is taken into account. I also think that some games with simple control schemes can work just fine on a touch system. For example, I've played quite a few JRPGs that work rather well.

We just need to teach developers that an on-command virtual joystick is better than some static one! :colbert:

Not sure where that number comes from. If I do get a Vita I will be getting the AC bundle which includes the 4GB card and game for $250. Memory card is on the small side, but it's enough to get started anyway.

Comes from your original post haha.
