I use them. It isn't like it's difficult or anything.

Such a simple courtesy. I do it 99.9% of the time. It doesn't take any effort, so why NOT do it?
Even when I'm the only one on the road, I do it... I'm always watching my mirrors and any side roads and upcoming intersections, so I make a point of making my intent known, as it should be done. That said, when it's 3am and there is literally no other cars on the road, I'll admit I'm mostly doing it for the sake of any coppers who may be eyeballin' my ride. I won't give them the satisfaction of any error that I may so readily control as a signal.

Sort of like the "if a tree falls in a forest and no one's around, did it make a noise?" If there's no one around to see the signal, did I signal? The answer is "no." If there's no one to signal to, then I don't bother with the signal, as is often the case. But, if there's any traffic around, I signal.

For what it's worth, I don't think flipping on your turn signal the instant you start the lane change is really signalling. You're not letting anyone know ahead of time what you're doing... they can already see you're changing lanes - at that point, the signal was a bit late. Seems a lot of people make flipping the signal part of the motion of turning the steering wheel.

Oddly, I find some people who signal to be annoying. E.g., you go from a 2 lane highway to a divided highway (fork in the road, oncoming is on the left, and you go to the right) - wtf are you signaling for? What were your choices? Turn right, or have a head on collision?

I hate the late use of signals.

I've seen so many drivers start the turn signal when they have already reached halfway into the lane into which they were switching. It's like... why bother at that point? You think you are achieving both your laziness and abiding by the rules of the road? "See, I signaled! I followed the rules!"

I'm okay with the nobody around, do what makes you feel better if you have to. If there is traffic, I always turn the signal on for a few blinks, confirm the way is clear, and THEN begin the intended maneuver. It just makes sense, and I get nothing out of it by being the dick who doesn't follow through with that process.

On the other hand, if it is 4AM and I'm changing lanes on an empty highway, I will not use my turn signals. Etc. Etc. I am inherently lazy, so to lift my arm to use them if not absolutely necessary is too much work. Must conserve energy for more important things.

"Lift your arm"? Do you keep your steering wheel straight by telekinesis, or did you rewire your turn signals to your sun visor? Because either option is fascinating!

Rumour has it that Olds' turn signal is on permanently after he leaves his driveway.

Probably meant hard to move his hands from the handlebar grip to the switch. like here:

Fuck no! That just gives the enemy advanced warning about your plans. Better to strike quickly and without warning lest they block your advance

You're doing it wrong...signal left...move right. Keep them guessing...

Not only do I use my turn signals...I drive down the highway for miles with them on...just to piss off the kiddies out there. :p
