Do you use your phone for music or keep it separate on an iPod/similar device?

Do you find it better to get keep the devices separate and have a smartphone for phone/app use and maybe some games, but keep music separate on an iPod?

Is the trade-off of carrying two devices worth it simply for reasons like battery life?

I really don't like having two devices - I tend to misplace my phone, but at least I can call and find it. With an MP3 player, I'd just lose it and find it much later.

I only use my iPhone.

I use two separate devices. However, I'm rarely somewhere I'm using both. I normally use my Zune if I'm working out, working around the house, etc. Doing that, I don't keep my phone on me.

Separate devices. I have a ZuneHD + whatever phone of the month I have. For starters, I use Zune Pass, which does not work on other devices, and frankly none of my phones have had a media player on the level of the Zune's anyway. Perhaps WinPhone7 will solve this.

iPhone goes with me everywhere, and I have music on it. My iPod only stays in my car, and has my entire library on it.

I have some music on my phone. The only time I bust out the ipod is if I have a need to bring all my music with me somewhere. The shuffle gets used for exercise though.

I can't stand two devices so I only have one. I use Pandora, iHeartRadio, tuneInRadio, and my own personal music so I don't have to carry around hundreds of GBs of music.

Mostly just use my phone for everything.

If I'm mountain biking at night alone I use the clip on ipod shuffle, clipped to a camelbak strap.

I run Subsonic on my little home server, so I have my entire (125GB) music collection with me on my phone everywhere I go.

I used to use a separate mp3 player, as I don't care for Apples sound quality or lack of custom eqs. The mp3 player started having issues though so now I use the phone for all.

I currently use one but have high hopes for windows phone 7 as that would allow me to ditch my Zune. I'd go with an iPhone but since they have no alternative to Zune Pass I refuse to switch.

I have 8Gb of storage on my phone and I use a 'travel' subset of my music collection on there. My other use for a PMP is my car, and that just has a 60Gb iPod classic in it permanently with ~25Gb of music. So my answer is: both.

while i do have about 1400 songs on my phone in case i want to listen to it, i still carry my zuneHD around. i use it in my truck hooked to the stereo more than anything else, but also use the zhd while working out in the field, as i usually run into battery issues just from the phone calls i make. cant trust it to play music all day as well as be there when i need to make a call.

My current media player is an old MSI with 128mb I think.
Just started back at the gym and for a work out, I think it should be OK. For long jogs I prefer the television cuz it keeps my mind off what I'm doing.
For just listening to music I prefer my computer or car system (with 16GB SD card). I dont think I need a separate, hi-cap media system for walking around.
My phone is the Droid so I guess I could do it, but I'd need to be recharging in the middle of the day.

EDIT:
Holy crap! 512 megs!
THATS FUCKING HUGE!!!!

I used to carry both my 160gb ipod and my cell. But I recently got the Samsung Vibrant and threw in another 16gb msd for 32gb of stuff and while I am not a fan of music from any phone I do like the better sound options on the phone than the ipod. Namely a real EQ. While the phone cant hold nearly as much files I find for commuting purposes it works great. Tethered my my mdr-v700dj cans the damn phone sounds freaking sweet.

This.

Separate devices is kind of annoying, but at least it means I get the battery life of both devices - the ZuneHD has awesome battery life, and my phone doesn't have to suffer at the hands of constant music.

I have always said, if WinMo7 can actually it all right, I might be able to let myself keep 1 device for everything, as we know ZunePass will work on the new WinMo (The ZuneHD software is basically built in to the OS)... the question is, can I tolerate the rest of the OS? I love the ZuneHD, but early discussions about the capabilities of the OS leave me worried - I absolutely love what I can do with Android on my Moto Droid, and right now I think having all of that, plus LTE, is exactly what I want for my next phone. WinMo might not ever get my love again, so I might always just stick to multiple devices.
And hell, outside of the gym or running, the only time it seems I actually use my Zune is inside my truck (I only listen to the Zune in the vehicle these days)... during college, I often had both devices on me at all times, as whenever I walked around campus I had on my earphones. A separate device is even more handy now, as the ZuneHD is better to strap to my arm for running, and perfect as a dedicated music source in my vehicle.

I have a very old iPod mini from the days when I still respected Apple that I keep around for audio books in the car on long trips, since it works with the iPod adapter I got. Kind of wish I got the USB drive version of that adapter instead. For outside the car, I use my phone.
