Do you use your computer to the MAX?

I see alot of people that have these monster rigs, C2D.. Opterons... etc.

What do you use your rig for? Do you actually use it for something that uses a majority of the CPUs power? Or do you just buy it just so you could put it in your sig?

-_-

My computer (calling it a rig for some reason doesn't sit right with me) this time around is engineering for quietness, not power. It can handle Battlefield 2 just fine, but past that I head to the 42" HDTV and the Xbox 360.

I initially built mine up so I could play Oblivion absolutely hassle free. And it worked... except Oblivion's enjoyment lasted about 2 weeks. Haven't really found "the next great PC game" so I guess I put too much stock into how great Oblivion would be and how I have a mostly idle system that, these days, is relegated to netsurfing and Excel work. But for that brief two week stretch... I was lovin life.

turbo button ftw! 😛

I use my PC for online gaming (WoW) and surfing the net... I only do major upgrades (ie: cpu, mobo, video card) every 2-3 years, but when I do, and usually aim for the top of the line to ensure that it'll last for a few years.

Not at all... which is why I haven't upgraded in quite a while. I've spent my money on "peripherals" 😛

Total Annihilation is currently my game of choice

I'm still interested in gaming but very few titles have held my attention recently, so gaming has been pretty minimal. That's really the only thing I do that stresses my machine, everythin else is just internet/school work/job (Access/programming).

So I'm in no hurry to upgrade to anything past my A64/gig of RAM/X800 XL.

I want to start video editing, but mine is done for graphic design/advertising and sound editing. There's also Firefox and torrents that take up my CPU in between projects. =0)

ouchie Hamburger lol, time for an upgrade.

closest i get is video games, mainly source. the rest is just surfing, music, movies, etc...none max my pc, cept maybe DVD ripping.

hardcore gaming (oblivion, cs:source, fear multiplayer and other games) and of course atot eats a lot of cpu 🙂

I dunno. I got a 3800 X2 and I'm burning a DVD while my WoW character is on a flight to Thunder Bluff and I'm surfing ATOT.

A sign you're getting old. Because 2 years ago when I went to build a new computer I went for the quietness route too. 😱 Before that I went for speed and fan noise be damned.

I upgraded mine up from a Barton 2500+ & Radeon 9500 Pro so I too could play Oblivion with the extra eye candy offered by the most demanding mods. I haven't started the game yet (bought it in April) but once I do, I should play it for years like I did Morrowind. I also have Forgotten Battles and Pacific Fighters still in their boxes, waiting. In the meantime, it's happily crunching SETI work units.
