At first I thought it was on by default, but then after reading some advanced options under the search menu, I realized you have to enable it. So do any of you use it? Is it really that useful?
Generally speaking it is on by default.
If it wasnt on then somethig is different about your PC.
If i were including large network volumes or large directories with tons of files in them into a search, then I would use indexing.
But frankly it doesnt have any real value for the everyday user.
It's been on by default on every single win2K installation I've done. That covers six different hardware configurations and about 20 actual installations 🙂
I personally think it's a waste of CPU time and hard drive bandwidth.
