it seems a handful of my contacts are 'offline', but when you check their profile or send them a message, they're online. The option isn't available to me since i use Trillian (2.0 pro), but if you use AIM, are you set to 'invisible mode' ?

Just block people on their buddy list only, not instant message.
It just makes AIM into a one-way street, mostly. You must initiate conversation.

Nope. People want talk to me, cool. People I don't like want to talk to me, I block them. Simple. Why would you be on AIM if you didn't want to talk with people?

normally if i dont want to talk to someone i just leave their IM window up (tabbed windows) and ignore it so I don't get bothered by a bunch of random noises when they say "hello? HELLO? YOU THERE? HELLOOOOOOOO?!?!?"

Then before i go to sleep i just say "oh hey sorry i wasn't around, blahb alh blah"

Damn no, because it's totally lame. Do you tell the phone company to not accept incoming calls?

I use Trillian, so no. If I don't want to talk to you, I won't to talk to anyone else either -and you'll know it.
