Do you use protection when you do it?

I mean people reommened me to use a wrist strap to ground myselft but I never do it. I've heard stories of hardware failures because of static electricty but I have never "killed" any of my computer hardware by static.

Yeah, seat belts and helmets, gloves and goggles.

Oh, anti static strap? No and never had any trouble but I do ground myself on the case and observe other precautions. It is a good idea to use one.

No victims due to static yet. Just touch some metal part of the case that is grounded and it'll be fine.

BTW I bet you tricked a lot of guys with such a title ;)

If you grab a bare spot, and do it sans shoes, you're likely to come out ok. Though perhaps a little worn out from the exertion.

Wait, you were talking about computer repairs? Ummm pretty much the same advice, I don't wear shoes to prevent the buildup of static by rubber.

no protection for me, I take my chances every time I do it and I haven't failed yet.

By the way, nice trick, haha.

I always use an anti-static strap when working on the equipment I work with. Just try to explain to YOUR boss that you just fried a $75,000 optics card because you were too lazy to put on your wrist strap.

I ALWAYS wear my wrist strap at work.

Protection? Naw that's the mans job.

I hear using a condom on your hand will help prevent static shocks. Besides theyre also useful for those hot saturday night dates.

I've got this little rig I've made up with the male ground plug that goes in a wall outlet hooked to an aligator clip by about 4 feet of wire. Gives me peace of mind.
