Do you use Mac Mail with Gmail?

How do you have it set up?

I am trying to use IMAP, but the inbox is acting very oddly.

Is there a better way to go?

I'm running two Gmail accounts through Mail right now (along with a MobileMe and a Hotmail account) and have had no issues whatsoever. What seems to be the "odd acting"? Maybe some more details would help.

Alternatively, this probably isn't what you're looking for per se, but there are Gmail "mail notifier" widgets and, if I'm not mistaken, a Google-official Gmail notifier application for OS X.

If I am looking on the gmail website, it shows messages in the inbox. But, I go to the inbox in Mail, and the messages are not there.

Sometimes, a new message shows up and Mail shows a red circle with a number in it, but the message itself does not show (but it is clearly visible on the website).

It works fine here... I've been using it for almost 2 years now.. whenever they enabled IMAP. I use it on my Mac Pro, Macbook Pro, iPhone, and iPad. Make sure IMAP is enabled in gmail itself, its not by default.

I'm not using Mac Mail, but I've been using fetchmail to grab a copy of all of my Gmail via IMAP for years now without issue. And everyone once in a while I'll use mutt or Thunderbird to access my Gmail via IMAP and I don't ever remember having an issue with that either.

yep. i use gmail for my personal domain and it works flawlessly in mail.app. i also have gmail regular with IMAP enabled and it works great too.

Works nice for me. Did setup using exchange rather than gmail on the phone.
I also setup other gmails accts on the phone using gmail settings on the phone.
That mail only comes in when I check mail on the phone.
The gmail setup in exchange pushes gmail to the phone for that gmail acct 24/7.
But the non exchange gmail accts only pull gmail when I check in on the phone.
You can google on how to setup gmail on an iphone and settings needed in your gmail acct. I do not see the need for MobileME. Gmail can be set to send mail, contacts and calendar by itself. Unless one needs the 20gb storage from mobileme membership.

yes, using IMAP, needed to do some tweaking, found a guide somewhere, if i remember correctly you need to do some stuff in google labs to have imap behave correctly

Gmail + Exchange is where its at.

Set it up as an exchange server.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to set up an Exchange account in 10.6! Whenever I do the 'add new account' thing, it automatically sets it up as IMAP and I can't figure out how to change it.

Thoughts?
