To be fair AOL killed the internet long before social media.

Thats interesting. Yes its like that. The social norms of the web have degraded.

Its so weird that imgur has one of the better communities out there.

This place is definitely shit. Something is wrong with most of you... I shouldn't even be bothering with this place. Its so unfriendly and then I lash out as well. There is no point in any of that. Its not useful... its not relaxing. I've been meaning to curtail my AT foruming.

See? You barely post here yet you had the most interesting thing to say, because I've never heard that term before.

I used to for a few years, basically wasted time on it every day until I switched my ISP's and in the process lost access to the email address I signed up with.
What a blessing.

The 3 small towns I live near created for sale, trade, swap page and I've a lot fun with it. Got rid of a bunch of stuff from the rental I'm selling and there are a bunch of people selling fresh eggs. The lady 2 dozen eggs I got had blue, light tan, and green shells. The yolks were a brilliant orange and taste far better than grocery store eggs. It's a good way to keep money local.

Yes but I don't really do much with it. Mainly just look at pictures that people post... But usually just ignore about 90% of it.

I used FB quite regularly when I was in Asia. It's really good to keep up with events back home.

Now, I'm home and I deleted my account a few months ago. Why? Because it's a waste of time. It has its place, but when you're on it everyday for 1-2 hours, even more it's a waste of time. My opinion. I was constantly checking FB and Twitter on my smartphone everyday. I felt like I was in Pavlov's experiment. The light would go on my smartphone and I'd check FB.

I have a friend who is on FB 4 hours a day easily. He belongs to 6 FB groups. The guy thinks he's actually doing something important. In reality he's going to die alone in his house. Never goes out. IMO, that's sad.

I heard it is not good to be too active on it for privacy reasons. Do you guys use it sparingly or are you addicts?
yes but mostly for chat and participating in groups that contain people I know.

I never put anything on my profile, I think that's pointless unless you have family or friends spread around the world that you like to keep in the loop.

I waste some time on pages but that's entirely my choice, deleting my account would serve no purpose, I'd just waste more time on here.

For privacy reason you shouldn't put up too much information, that's true. Especially GPS location or announcing you're going on holiday.
Making the profile unsearchable from search engines and keeping the contents hidden for non-friends helps a lot already anyway.

I had an account several years ago, which I deleted. I joined again when I moved, but I forgot my password a couple of months ago and I've just never bothered to reset it. Will probably just delete again; I just don't find it all that interesting or useful.

I grudgingly created a fake account to get a free lifetime license for a light virtualization app. I used it again just this week to get a %5 discount on a purchase.

I use it every day and have fun doing it. I reconnected with friends and family I haven't seen in years and would otherwise never be able to communicate with, so I like it. If they want to to market my age group and look at selfies of me and my wife smiling at restaurants, have at it.

If they were friends, how'd you lose contact?

They move away usually. Long distance friend relationships don't tend to last.

Like some people already said I only use Facebook to keep up with family that I don't see very often. I might post something once every 6 months, if that.

There's definitely been a decline in its use over the past few years.

I use it all the time. No different than an off-topic online forum to be honest -- except I actually know the people.

I used it a lot while in college and immediately after, but I deleted it maybe 5 years ago now. Sure I miss out on some events because I don't have it, but I probably wouldn't go to most anyway. The friends I'm close with know I don't have FB and go through the effort of actually calling or texting.

What is this calling thing you speak of? Is that some sort of new technology I haven't heard of?

Only have it for close friends and family. 22 friends in total. I don't use my full name and secured the hell out of it. One thing that pisses me off is that I'm constantly changing the timeline from top stores to most recent. It's utterly fucking stupid that I have to keep changing this option.
And even then, the "Most Recent" doesn't work. At least for me, it has never worked. My news feed is in a "eh, pretty much most recent" order. Boggles my mind this has never worked. I'd take a screenshot but I'm at work.
