Do you use cruise control?

?? Am I the only one who thinks that cruise control is safer than just keeping your foot on the gas? IMO I think it's safer because I keep my foot hovered infront of the brake once cruise control is engaged.

Depends. Cruise isn't safe when driving in traffic, (too many variables like stupid drivers and close quarters) but when on the "open road", it is a great way to maintain your speed, and get better fuel economy.

Agreed. Plus, with gas here (St. Louis) at $3.15/gal. I'll use it whenever I can.

I don't use cruise control unless it's an empty highway and there's no one else in sight...

I do when there are no cars a good distance in front of me. Actually, keeping hovered may not be as good as you think, since by experience you may be used to shifting your foot to the left to slam on your brakes... if you'll be slamming the floorboard. Reminds me of that left-handed parachute jumper who died after being given a right-handed chute on a jump.

You, sir, should not be driving a vehicle if you're concerned about that.

only on long roads with little-to-no traffic.

when I'm driving on route 80, I keep myself entertained by seeing how long I can go with cruise control on.

I'd never use it on local roads or in even medium traffic, though.

I'm just saying, old behavior may kick in in an emergency situation. Why take chances? ;)

Because your foot is slightly resting on the brake??? And if you can feel the brake, why would you move your foot any further to the left?

I typically do the 3 hour drive from my new home to Edmonton without taking the cruise off. Even on Friday afternoons when the traffic is relatively heavy.

Sometimes you can actually get better fuel economy at higher speeds.

I usually get better fuel economy at 70-80 than I do 55-65, in my car. Buick Regal GS.

I recently found this to be true. Avergae of 85 mph and I got 29 mpg. Normal mpg is 21-24.

I use it on highways with light traffic. No point in heavy traffic or on secondary roads.

Sometimes I will begin to drift down to a lower speed then I want, so what I do sometimes is set the cruise control at the minimum speed I want, and so I can drive with the gas pedal as I normally would, but when I get down to the minimum, the cruise control keeps me at the speed I don't want to go below.
