Cleartype rocks on any LCD I've used it on...but I tried it on my CRT and (as I expected) my eyes started hurting after a bit. It was fine non-cleartyped anyway.

ClearType is a font-smoothing system used to make the text on LCDs look better. You can enable it in "Display Properties" -> "Appearance" tab -> "Effects..." button -> "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:". Select ClearType from the dropdown.

[EDIT: Damn you guys! I thought I might be beaten by one person, but two!!! Oh well, I have step-by-step instructions! So there! :p]

i still have no idea..i dun see any drop down for me to ipck the clear type part :(

You also have to be running Windows XP.

I don't really like it on CRTs, but it's like a day and night difference to me on an LCD. Looks awesome with a 2000FP! :)

When I had my 2000FP cleartype made an AMAZING difference.

I have no idea how they do it (the ability to manipulate at a sub-pixel level confuses the hell out of me), but it's definitely a good thing.

I have a 15" Optiquest CRT but I still use ClearType. It's pretty nice! I can imagine how nice it'll be when I decide to splurge for an LCD. :)

I have an 1800fp, and Cleartype DOES NOT work. It makes the letters look sorta jagged and blurry. It is a known problem, talked about alot on the Dell support forums. Many people have returned the monitors to Dell because of it.

I even use it for my CRT... still see a difference from non-cleartype on a CRT, why discriminate? :D

No, cleartype just doens't look good on my Dell 1800FP. I did use it when I had my two previous 19" Mitsubishi Diamondtron Monitors :)
