Do you use an Anti-Static Strap while working on computers?

Nope, I touch the case or the sides of other large metallic objects (like my desk) on occasion. Never had any problems with static.

This question has been asked again and agian, but the new ones just don't seem to see the search feature  😛

I never use one, its not the 90's anymore, the parts are very hard to be dmaged by static.

Hell, I (uninteligently admittedly) was working on my computer when it was on. I removed a PCI card, it touched something on the motherboard, and GIANT SPARKS FLEW OUT OF THE SIDE OF THE COMPUTER.

It kept on running like nothing had happened. Needless to say though, I now turn my computer off when I work on it.

Naw no need, just turn off your pc, turn off the PSU and unplug it, and touch the PSU every so often to stay grounded.

I was a hardware pro in the 90s when static used to fry things if you weren't careful. I used one then but now I don't. I still make sure the case is grounded while I'm working on things, though.

Having said that a lot of my old caution has gone out of the window. My entire computer is sitting in bits on my desk, and it's running right now. I'm using it to write this. I've also run hardware while wet. No permanent damage.

Christ, after nearly a decade of hanging out here, I inspired a poll. I'm not sure if I should feel honored or embarrassed...

Perhaps this could be settled with a poll...

I remember a segment on the Screensavers when the guys took a tazer gun to computer parts and plugged it in. I think they also used one of those lightning balls too.
Needless to say after plugging in the card to a computer it started to smoke.

Have never used one. I touch the case and ground myself; also work on wood floor. I suppose working on carpet in a dry climate or in winter might could cause a problem. Rubber sole shoes and touching your case before starting ought to do it, even on carpet.
