I'm thinking that would be a very profitable business...

I heard they charge $25/week from a homeowner's perspective... that's some good money each day if you have a good list of clients.

I don't think I'd mind getting out from behind my PC everyday and do this type of job. There's this guy outside in my neighbor's yard doing their lawn right now - by himself. THat's some cool cash if he does like 5-10 houses a day minimum.

No, I do a MUCH better job, and my yard shows it too. I do everything myself, from laying sod, plucking weeds, and taking care of my lawn.

A friend of mine use to own a landscaping business. He said customers would jump from one company to another to save $5.00 per month. Competition around here is feirce. Even harder than the work, is finding new customers. Not much fun...

I did my own yard for the first time this past weekend since I bought the house. It was rough considering the lawn was unmowed since before Winter. But I wouldn't think it's too rough if I have 2 or 3 guys with me and doing 5-10 houses a day. How many houses do you think is avg per day for these guys?

There's a lot of ads in the paper for all these companies. I can see how people would drop for a $5 savings. Gotta work the referrals :) ... I just can't see losing money from a business like this...

I think the rates in my south Florida neighborhood is about $40 a week. The crews are usually migrant workers employed by a US citizen. It's tough work--noisy, hot, exposed to danger and pollution from the equipment, fireants . . .

edit: No, I cannot afford a lawncare service.

i do my own stuff
a man i work with used to work for an outfit,to remain unnamed; ;)
{TruGreen ChemLawn Care - ServiceMaster}

he said they watered down the chemicals to about 10-15% of what was supposed to be really put down on the lawns,and the pellet type fertilizer when used was put down at less than half of the normal amount.the large companies are in it for the money,not to do a great job.

He tells all the people at work,if you hire a lawn service go with the small guys and ask for references,And go look at the lawns they do.
