Do you turn your laser printer off when your not using it?

Is it worth it to turn it on and off, or just leave it on all the time?

I barely ever use mine, so I only turn it on when I'm using it. But mine does have a power saving mode after about 5 min. Samsung ML-1210.

Most go into power saver mode anyway when not in use for a certain period of time, so may as well leave it on, unless you're not going to be using it for days/weeks, but it's nice to just hit "Print" and not have to worry about turning the damn thing on 😉

I leave the power on but it goes to sleep after 10 minutes. I don't use it much so I was surprised to see that my printouts were coming out with shades of gray down the sides. The drum must've went bad or something. I'm using a Brother HL-1440 🙁

Never turn if off, it goes to sleep after 10 min. And by the way, there's no ON/OFF switch so you can't turn it off without unplugging it. It's an 8 year old HP 4L.

HP-1100 user here. There's no power switch, and I obviously don't bother to unplug the thing every time I'm not using it.

I do unplug the powerstrip that my entire system is attached to if I'm leaving for more than a day, but not the printer individually.

Yes, it's been OK, except for the frustration I experienced for almost 2 years hand-feeding it one page at a time (because it would try to take 3-6 pages at a time) until I finally contacted HP, and they mailed me a repair kit free of charge. (Finally, relief! And I didn't need to shell out for a new printer after all, even though I was ready to.)

Mine has about 2700 pages on it, and I'm now on my second toner cartridge.

Since the paper-feed repair kit solved my one problem, I'll keep the printer for as long as it still prints (and cartridges are made), because it was expensive when I bought it ($300-400, IIRC), and why replace something that works? I'd like to buy a 16 MB SIMM for it, but I can't figure out which type I need. It's never failed to print a page, but some pages take a long time to start printing. (I assume the laser must charge the drum using several passes, and then finally feed the page--I'm not sure exactly how it works around its current 2MB RAM limitation though.)

I power off my laser when not in use.

Slightly off topic now, why do people leave on their inkjets for 24/7? And then a few months down the road, they wonder why the print heads are all clogged up.
