I'm checking out a thread in FW and PaypalWarning.com and I'm becoming paranoid that PayPal is gonna screw me over one day or another. Do you have any personal stories against Paypal?

i don't trust them anymore.

after i jumped thru all their hoops w/a claim, they didn't do anything about it.

it's so easy to scam thru paypal anyways.

I've never had any problems with them. The service seems to improve all the time, and I love the fact that they now accept amex and discover.

yes, here's what you do:

1) get verified. no whining, just do it. if your bank charges for the wire transfer, then get a new bank or another bank of the side.
2) get upgraded to premier. no whining, just do it. i know, paypal will ~3% of the money, but you gotta pay the piper. unlimited credit card accept, 24 hour 800 number for support, and other neat features.
3) only ship to verified addresses. if they try to give you a song and dance why they can't, ask them to provide you with their phone number, have them call you from that phone number to a phone with caller ID, call them back at that number, and try to authenticate with the eBay phone number or phone book. i did this to confirm identity and it seems to work.
4) always get at least shipped + delivery confirmation for small items (under $50 or so). if more than that (like $100), don't ship via USPS. ship at least Fedex ground or Fedex 3-day (don't trust UPS unless you are shipping a monitor or something big and heavy).
5) watch out for people wanting you to ship to indonesia, russia, ukraine, or other countries with high internet fraud and large credit card rings.
6) watch the trolls list, and always check ebay feedback/heatware feedback. for ebay, send a message to the ebay account and have them reply back from that email address. it is very easy to claim to be user abc with a +500 and not really be.

it is kind of a scary place out there, but with some internet smarts, you can make it =)

Uh we're not scared of internet fraud here

we're talking about getting outright hacked

<< My PayPal account was just hacked. Someone sent a bunch of payments from my credit card and bank account.

I have never received or replied to any bogus PayPal email, not tonight or any other night!

I have never given my password out to anyone.

<< yodayoda, you are dead on. >>

yodayoda and John, what makes you so sure that PayPal won't freeze your accounts all of a sudden or if you are more of a buyer, that people can hack into your account easily? My biggest problem with them is that they are not FDIC insured and that their TOS states that you CANNOT sue PayPal.

Here is the FW Link

Yep, and I guess I'll continue to trust them until I lose something. Hasn't happened yet, knock on wood.

Actually, I'm getting anxious about leaving money in there now... I'm gonna move some of it out now.

I lost all my confidence in PayPal. Why? They don't value their customers and are not going to stay behind them.

Don't believe me? Try at least once to claim your money after you receive defective product and seller is not willing to cooperate. In my case PayPal's response was: "we're not responsible for the quality of goods you sell/buy". After many phone calls and emails, I'm still stuck with defective hard drive for which I have absolutely no use.

Not enough? One idiot three weeks ago payed me with the stolen credit card. Guess what our lovely PayPal does? They close his and my account, asking me to fax them
1. copy of my driver licence
2. my credit card statement
3. my phone bill
Besides those three items, they say that "it takes 3-4 business days to process". Today is 18th day and I still have my account closed. Calling customer service is pointless, since "they are not fraud department". They simply ask me to contact PayPal via email (wtf the customer service is for than????), and as you can guess, none of my emails are ever responded.

How can I ever respect company like that? I'm only using them because there are no alternatives at the moment and most of my customers feel pretty comfortable with PayPal. If I would have a choice, I would't give them a penny for their lousy support and customer service.

Hi,

We have not been hacked. Accounts, in the unlikely event that we were, are insured up to $100,000 against unauthorized transactions.

The issues have to do with users entering information at a site they should not have (like the recent paypalebay.com or paypal-login.com issues). Please do not log in at any site other than www.paypal.com.

Hi andrey,
PayPal, as a payment service, can't verify the items that you decide to buy at a venue. Simple question? Could this have happened if you sent the seller a money order? The answer is "Yes". The money order company would also not get involved in the dispute, which is something the buyer/seller have to work on together.
