Monarch is not the kind of outfit to intentionally give you used/bum hardware under the guise of OEM.

Not true. They actually have done that on several occasions before..

Oh please. Several occassions out of thousands and thousands of orders that went just fine? What PROOF do you have that they INTENTIONALLY sent used product?

None.

If Monarch makes a mistake, it's your fault if you don't do anything about it. If you receive a used product, I see no reason why they would not be more than happy to exhange it for what you paid for.

Monarch had a deal going where if you bought an Opteron 1xx/mobo combo, you could choose an Opty 144 for $130 with whatever mobo.

I got one of those with a DFI LANPARTY Ultra-D. My Opteron 144 will only do 2250Mhz default vcore setting and 2295MHz at 1.45v setting.

My sad story here.

Really? How old are you? 10? People cheat in something as insignifigant as on-line gaming - what do think happens when real money is involved?

This is main reason I only buy retail boxed. An extra layer of security knowing vendors hands wer'nt pawing all over it... even if it was'nt a return.

I was about to order the 170 Opteron from Monarch with the coupon. I am gonna be OCing and it struck me... how do we know these are not refurbished that would not OC well... or how do we know these are not really cheap because they are from a week that is not known for OCing? any input?

At prices now the Athlon 64 X2 3800+ is a better chip for only $295

http://www.mwave.com/mwave/Skusearch.hmx?scriteria=BA21810

Same chip for all intents and purposes and runs cooler w/ less cache it has enableing higher OC negating 170's cache advantage \\.. Like it was ever a real advantage in the first place. Save your money.
