Do you tip satellite installers?

NO!

WTF is it with people who seem to think they need to tip everyone for doing their job? Now if you have the guy do extra work for you...above the basic installation that your contract specifies, then yes, give him a nice tip, but for "standard installation"? Fck NO!

I used to be one. The answer was usually not.

As far as me hooking up free pr0n. I didn't handle the programming...it was all done from your account code. You could only receive what your package contained... (of course, there used to be Direct TV hacks available for the smartcard-based systems)

Since ours "mistakenly" took our old hardware (which we were supposed to return to our old provider,) as well as some video switching devices from my kid's room, I say no.

No, but I had an old CD rack which the installer really liked when he came over. My SO and I were meaning to get rid of it anyways so we told him he could have it. He was really happy and did a great job with the installation. He even gave me a bunch of coupons for free pay per view movies through DirecTV to show appreciation for the rack.

Tipping is often not necessary but doing favors for people in general will often get you lots of nice hook ups. The pay per view coupons were not much in this case, but you would be surprised how many perks you will get on a regular basis if you do favors for strangers often.

I agree.
I have never gotten one tip no matter how good the code I write performs.

ATOT always amazes me at the number of people that I have never considered tipping.

Back when I used to listen to Stern on the radio I was amazed at the people New Yorkers would tip. From the discussions they used to have around Christmas time it sounded like veryone you dealt with in your daily life had their hand out waiting for a tip.

You're having a satellite installed? In your house? It's not going to do much good. You should ask NASA to launch it to space for you but I wouldn't tip them.

If you're having a satellite dish system installed that's different. No, don't tip them.

Last guy that came out didnt speak a word of English, so I dont think he understood when I asked. He just grunted tword the sig line when he was done and left.

DING!

That's too bad for the both of you. I've had two DTV installs done, the second was an upgrade to HD in two rooms.....and both installs were quite competently done. Guess it depends upon who your installer is....much like who delivers your UPS/FedEx packages....some are great, some are scum.

I've never tipped and never had to. Did pass out sodas, though, and since it was over 95F, they were much appreciated.

I installed my original DirecTV system myself in 1996. It worked flawlessly from that time until I wanted to upgrade my system for HD. DirecTV said I could not do the install myself and since they were giving me the dish and receiver along with the install at no charge I didn't argue with them. 1 month after the initial install I ended spending $120.00 to buy a meter from solidsignal and after watching the DirecTV training videos and reading the small set of instructions that come with the dish I reinstalled my dish correctly the way DirecTV and the dish manufacturer say it is supposed to be done and like magic no more loss of signal and pixelization.

As a Sat installer, I can tell you that tips are appreciated but 99% of DTV/Dish customers never tip, on the other hand only about 85% of Wildblue/Hughesnet customers don't. So your answer is that most don't, if you do it is appreciated but it really is up to you.
