Do you think you'll see human mars landing in our life time?

Some of the seemingly impossible obstacles we have to overcome:

*Mars is 34 million miles away from us ONLY when both Mars and Earth are on the same side, which is once a year.
*This is roughly about 150x farther than to moon. With our current technology, astronauts may have to spend at least 7-8 months each way. Just WTF are they gonna eat during that time?
*It is currently downright impossible to relaunch the astronauts back to earth. We probably would need similiar amount of equipment on earth to escape Mars' gravity. I don't think this will be possible within 50 years....
*Isn't there a space radiation ring that humans cannot survive or evade on the way to Mars?

100% yes, if we actually TRY. A permanent moonbase would go a long way to doing that, since we'd have to build a large space infrastructure to support it.

we could...but it would cost too much money and i would guess that they screw up at least once...and if that happens people might not be real supportive of it...that being said if we aren't being realistic just asking if we can do it...yes...will we do it? i doubt it

i never really got the whole interest in traveling to other planets...

is earth really that boring for you?

I mean the moon is one thing since that is our satellite but really.....

not if we're busy occuping multiple countries on the other side of the world and enacting tax policies so stupid, the president's own appointed treasury secretary was forced to resign when he balked at them...

I  earth. But astronomy has always held my interest since childhood... I loved the movie Contact.

So...we should hang around earth forever?

Don't you have enough to interest you inside your house? What's the point of ever leaving your town?

Depending upon the orbits at the time, a one way trip to mars will take several years to get there. At present, we lack the ability to keep astronauts muscle and bone density loss in check for that long a time in zero gravity. Scientists are working on ways to simulate gravity in a short radius centrifuge. I don't think we will see it in our lifetime, however.

Roll your little eyes all you want. You know I have a valid point. There's stuff out there worth seeing, land worth colonizing, and phonomena worth investigating.

worth what?

its not a valid point lets finish exploring this planet first. A simple cost benefit analysis will show that there is very little .....to be gained from a mission to mars.

With the limited atmosphere i would imagine radiation being an issue, especially when the solar flares happen in the right direction!

1. You are commiting a logical error here. It's not an either/or issue. we are currently exploring the depths of the oceans anyway. Don't be a fool and act like everything is a zero sum game. It's not.
2. Saying that there is little to gain from going to mars is...preposterous at best.

It IS a valid point.

That is sheer short-sightedness. That's like saying wright brothers are idiots for constantly making arm-mounted wingflaps and cardboard airplanes only to fall on their asses over and over again.

Less than a centry later, we can now fly to the other side of the world at any time we want.

we will land on mars
txm cruxe, a martian dorkworker.
will drive his car like an idiot
he will take his screaming daughter
and imbicille teenage son and flee
from the martian lander.

There enterprise was not heavily funded or funded at all by tax payer dollars. If a privately find corp wants to blow there money on such a foolish mission then be my guest.

Oh sweet so they can dump billions of dollars that have much much better use here on earth into traveling to a planet to take some pictures and bring back some sand and rocks. Really really justified.

Put the money towards something that will really benefit the human race.

You could say the exact same thing about welfare, art, etc. I'm fine with that, if you are willing to cut ALL gov't programs outside of defense. If not, STFU with that bit.
