Do you think we'll ever create Warp Drive?

I think the idea is there, but of course our interpretation of the tech is probably way off course. Just look at any TOS episode's computer systems. Even the tricorders (think PDAs) came to be, sans the mini CRT screen.

Yeah, that won't happen.. just like who would've thought a few tons of steel is flying thru the sky.

How many people would have said that about walking on the moon in 1920?

And little green men will invade the earth.

We are already working on propeling ships with light (just not at faster than light speeds) as well as energy from fusion and recently antimatter reactions. Transporters are being realised on a very very small scale, holodecks are used in the medical field and can generate 3D holograms (true, not solid, but one day who knows). Our computing power will certainly catch up and we also have the LCD display technology. Look at the sort of laser weapons we are deploying also.

And little green men will invade the earth.

That will be coming soon too.

I'm very [/b] optimistic[/b] on the subject,If we put our minds and money behind it,it will happen sooner or later.I believe that traveling faster than the speed of light will also have profound ramifications regarding time travel.
What I am worried about is what happens to the human race should we discover a way to time travel.
Do we go back in time and screw the pooch on on our future or do we travel to the future and screw the pooch for our great grand children ?

even if we could push something past speed of light you have to deal with the problem of people being made of soft stuff. You couldn't just start and stop at warp speed cuz that would make you into mush. you would need years to build up or reduce speed to make it work. also there is the problem of avoiding random objects. i don't think you can turn quickly at warp speed. and there is the problem with time distortion at FTL speeds. really the galaxy is so fantastically big (not even considering of the universe) that I doubt we will be able to make use of anything past this solar system. there are probably better ways of moving around then just going the direct route.

everyone's heard of wormholes (made popular again Carl Sagan's "Contact") but i was always curious of how we could withstand the massive gratitational forces involved. even if we had a neighborhood wormway it woulnd't be much use if you were compacted down to the size of a few microns when you moved through it.

folding space? i dunno. 100 years ago no one would have thought the computer possible, or have any real idea how it would be done. same with genetics etc.

We wont be seeing it ANY time soon and that's for sure. I've seen some Discovery channel specials and the few things that are being worked on is 1)Light Purpoltion which is only going to be used to get off earth and into space to start because the machines that make the light bursts are frikin HUGE. 2) Nuclear purpoltion for deap space travel. We aren't even close to putting any of those 2 methods to use with space travel. The way we get into space as of now is pretty inefficient, wastefull and REALLY frikin dangerous. We're sending people into space on 99% controlled explosions for the most part. It dose work but when you think about it, it's not a technical marvel when compared to anything else that dosn't burn over 90,000 gallons of fule every time it leaves earth.

well just remember that even in the startrek universe we don't hit warp one until we are ruined by ww3 :) hahaha, i can't wait:p

i honestly dont know if the human race will last long enough for that :) if we do though we can come up with anything.

I believe that at some point we will eventually get there, be it through synthetic wormholes, some quantum tunnelling effect, or some other means of sidestepping the lightspeed barrier. There's probably more than one way to do it, too.

Maybe....I know how to make a feasible "fly car" but the problem is the power...

I guess we have to wait for the perfection of hydrogen cells...and if anything, hydrogen convertors
