WTH is "The Mars Volta?" I've never heard of it. I'm not a Classical Music Professor, but I'm familiar w/most of the "standard" pieces. Explain.

I've heard of them, but haven't listened to any of their stuff yet. They're pretty progressive, verdad? I think if you guys have a pretty good level of skill you can probably pull it off.

That's a tough style to sing in, and they thrash at times. If you're the kind of person who's prepared to leave a few thousand posts on a computer hardware forum I doubt you can pull it off.

It'll take quite a bit of work, but it's not impossible. Great band BTW. They opened for A Perfect Circle last year! :)

It's very possible.... the hard part is learning how to use the octave shifter on your voice accordingly... The band doesn't need THAT good of chops to play it, it's more of finding the right hardware to get the right sound, and being able to set it up right...

Then again, most people at the show will have no clue what the hell you are playing.

it probably won't be an issue if you're not playing to a big audience, but keep in mind that any time you play music you didn't write in a buisness establishment (whether or not you get paid), you're supposed to cough up dough to the appropriate publishing organization for the people you're covering. it will say on the CD who their rights are administered by.

as for whether you can pull it off, only you can answer that. keep in mind that they don't really pull "it" off live, either. the mars volta normally takes the stage, makes bullsh!t noise for 35 minutes while the drummer busts out some huge grooves, strike poses in their tight pants, bitch at the crowd for trying to mosh, then leave. while they are leaving, they will bitch at any fans who might make the mistake of asking for their autographs. i bet you could probably pull that off!

lol, at that!

I love their music but I think you should play something that more people have heard of.
