Do you think warning labels are getting a little ridiculous?

I heated up a Tombstone frozen pizza last night for myself and my roomate. I flipped it over to find the oven setting, and the very first thing on the back in bold was "Do not eat without cooking". Do we really need a warning like that on a damn FROZEN PIZZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, because we have too many dumbasses willing to make a quick buck with a trivial lawsuit.

No doubt there are people dumb enough to eat a frozen pizza and sue someone over it.

They are out of hand indeed. We need to start suing people for being dumb enough to eat a frozen pizza then complain about it.

How about a slap (or two, or three) upside the head instead? :D

No. Most of the time these silly warnings are only there because of events that have happned to the company before or other companies. They just want to make sure they can get sued over it (again). Maybe they should have certain IQ Levels for using things lol. :p

That's exactly what's going on. The warning label thing is driven by lawsuits filed by assclowns who managed to injure themselves by not taking basic OBVIOUS precautions with whatever product we're talking about. Just wait....you'll see a "Warning! Do not insert in rectum!" label on your pizza box soon.

Unfortunately you will have too many of those "problems" sueing the company for lack of warning labels.

I think, however, that the companies should be able to sue those people for being mindless, stupid idiots, because they can't take simple precautions.

I think the lawsuit has stopped the process of natural selection, and will soon turn the world into a bunch of idiots

Bwahahahahahahahah! Nothing like a 7am cackle in a quiet office!

This labelling crap all started with hair driers in the 70's. Stupid people would sit in the bath and blow dry their hair! A few total morons dropped the thing in the tub and either died or were badly electrocuted. Families sued the makers! So they had to start putting those big flag labels on the cords saying not to use in the tub (duh).

To me, it's natural selection at its finest. :D

They should just put: "Don't use this product if you would sue someone over something caused by your own stupidity."

What he said. Fvcking America makes it too easy to sue someone over frivolous crap THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED BY USING A LITTLE COMMON SENSE. :|

The best STUPID warning labels I ever saw were:

-"Warning. Knife Will Cut." This was on a meat slicer behind the counter of the snack bar at a K-Mart. (Gee, really? I didn't know knives could cut stuff.)

-"STOP. Do Not Eat." This was displayed on a piece of cardboard inside the packaging of a microwaveable pretzel. (You were supposed to put the pretzel on the cardboard while microwaving. I can only imagine the dumbasses who thought it meant don't eat the pretzel.)

:D

My solution is fair. When you have a lawsuit about a product-related injury where the judge finds that the "victim" honestly didn't realize his/her lack of common sense and awards damages, then let the judge also revoke the victim's driver's license, right to own a gun, and voting privileges in order to protect the public, citing the same lack of common sense which led to the injury.

"Warning: Do not use while stupid!"

If I ever need a warning label, that's the one I'm gonna use. :D

That would never fly since it would put AOL, WebTV, Volvo, and NASCAR merchandisers out of business. :p

Amen! I think sterilization should also be included in the penalties. If they have had the misfortune to breed, the kids should be placed with a new family that has a higher grade of intelligence....

I hate stupid lawsuits and everything they've led to!:|

The most recent one I've heard about is about a guy who ran over his daughter who was sunbathing in the driveway. He is suing the car maker because it was a leased car and technically he did not own the vehicle. I hope the guy dies a painful death and rots in hell. Die motherfvcker!

EDIT: I don't want to go off topic, so instead of posting a new reply, I'll just add it in this edit.

Here's a Link that talks about a law that holds leasing companies at fault for leased-car injuries.

Here's LINK to an article that talks about JP Morgan not leasing in NY because of that law. I can only assume that the party in question in the article is the same guy I mentioned in the original post.

they should not need warning labels for things that at least 50% of the population would consider to be "common sense"

I predict that what will ultimately happen, is that our products will become so ridden with warning labels that each individual warning will be essentially useless, since it is crowded out by dozens of other warnings. Think about it: a warning is only effective if it STANDS OUT. If there are a hundred warnings with everything "standing out", then NOTHING stands out!

At this point you will have people suing because there were too many warnings for them to see whatever warning there was that told them not to do what they did that got them hurt!

I still want to know why the Anandtech forums don't have a warning label.

WARNING: OFF-TOPIC HAS BEEN SHOWN TO BE HIGHLY HABIT-FORMING. MAY CAUSE STUNTING OF NORMAL SOCIAL SKILLS, IRRATIONAL ANGER AT ANONYMOUS INTERNET PERSONS, INSOMNIA AND/OR INCONTINENCE. DO NOT OPERATE HEAVY MACHINERY OR LAWN EQUIPMENT WHILE NEFFING.
