Only if you are American. That list is only US grossings.
Since I am American, it applys just fine to me. The whole idea that box office grossings have any relationship to movie rankings is rediculous. I just pointed out one of many flaws in that idea.

According to box office ticket sales it was.
Wrong.

Titanic is #6. But even then that listing doesn't include population adjustments. So in reality, Titanic should be #7 or #8.

If you're going to contest what he's saying, then back it up with facts. What movie, according to your research, grossed the most globally in inflation-adjusted dollars? Oh wait, you didn't do any research? It sounds like you're saying that this guy is wrong because. That's how my 5-year-old nephew argues.

Titanic is an OK movie. I saw it the first time about 1 year after its release. I was entertained, but not thrilled with the movie.

That list is fux0red. How the hell is Shrek all the way down there and Snow Ho and the Seven Dwarfs all the way up there??

If you had read the entire page, you would have known the answer to your question:

"Most pre-1980 pictures achieved their totals through multiple releases, especially Disney animated features which made much of their totals in the past few decades belying their original release dates in terms of adjustment. For example, Snow White has made $118,328,683 of its unadjusted $184,925,486 total since 1983."

Titanic - it's only a big deal because it was an expensive ship with a lot of rich people. Were that not the case, no one would ever know about it except perhaps a few historians.

Well no kidding. Who's gonna give a rat's ass about a dinghy full of homeless people going down?

I am sorry I should have linked stats. Here you go.

Edit: And if you are after the stats post inflation

His list was base on inflation as a variable. Here's a better list (though figures are not accurate as mentioned in the article).

Worldwide box office figures - Adjusted for inflation

If you adjust for inflation, Titanic is only #6. Gone With the Wind is actually #1.

As for Titanic being the best movie ever put to film.... Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah *gasp* aaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaah

It's ok but the goofs are annoying. Any lightbulb nerd knows they did not have soft white incandescent lamps back in 1912 - much less use them in the passageways of oceanliners. The scene with Rose hanging off the stern railing was also very phony looking - the stars and the gradient had worse banding than ATi's Rage Fury with 16 bit color at the time. Inexcusable for ILM effects.

The love story? Of course there's emotion. The scene with Rose looking up at Jack from the lifeboat as its being lowered with the flare exploding from behind out of focus was outstanding and the mood set is quite emotional. Of course I'm biased. 😛

What I took away from the movie is that Jack and Rose were essentially responsible for sinking the Titanic because they distracted the lookouts with their shenanigans.

I enjoy reminding the morons who enjoyed the love story part that if Rose had stayed in the stupid life boat, then Jack would have had room to survive on the hunk of wood that Rose survived on. Rose essentially killed Jack through her actions.

But then it would have been even less realistic. Women aren't supposed to do what their told

Yes. And McDonalds makes the worlds best burgers because they sell the most.

It's a great movie, but no.

the question posed by the OP was:

"Do you think Titanic was A greatest movie ever filmed?"

the A combined with Greatest = great right?

meaning, if you thought it was a great movie than the answer to the question in the title would be YES. 😉

personally i didn't even think it was that good a movie.
