Yea call them and ask them if they are selling it or what. DONT tell them your buying it until they give you some kind of price or something because they can be sneaky...

Those type of sites are usually squatters. They just buy lots of random domains and hold them untill someone wants to buy. In the meantime, they put similar advertising links to make it look like a network.

They must be making some big money because I asked them if it was available for sale and they said, "NO."

I think that the people that truly know why those sites exist don't want to reply to this thread because they don't want anyone encroaching on their easy cash.

Thats a top level domain. Easy to remeber and spell. I wouldn't give it up easily either. They probably get a few hundred hits a week with no advertising just becuase of the url.

How much could a few hundred hits a week be worth...apparently enough for them not to want to sell. They told me they paid $12k for the domain.

fwiw I own a wack domain name because I was kinda bored and suddenly had this inspiration to make a whole new variety of feel-good-about-yourself porn, so I set off to try and register a domain. Of course it turns out that all the URLs I could really think up were already taken. And then I decided I really DID want a domain anyway, so I came up with a rather nonsensical domain which I plan on using dammit.
