stealing is stealing, whether a candy bar from the candy shop, or a song from a musician

Do we really need another thread on this?

I havent denied it is steeling but I think it is moraly ok...guess I am too much into the web..haha

you don't have the moral right to enjoy the work of others for free.

your arguement that you wouldn't buy it anyways is a pathetic one. first of all, thats the same arguement shoplifters use. 2nd of all, of course you wouldn't buy it anyways when you could get it free. and if its so bad that you wouldn't buy it, why waste your time listening to it. so it ends up with you justifying theft...

if all people were like you, we'd be like china, devastating our media/intellectual property industries. and we wouldn't have an America to leech content from.

so, by your definition, you think everyone should go and steal a candy bar, hence putting the candy store out of business...

the candy man is doing good business, so i dont see why we cant take a few candy bars and not pay, he already has money anyway

Okay, look at it from a different perspective. Lets say that you are an author by trade -- that's how you make all of your money. You spend years writing a novel, and you finally get it published, printed and distributed. Then the sales start happening and you finally make some money at it. One day, some asshole decides to put it on the net in digital format and all of a sudden everyone is downloading it and reading it for free, taking away from the would-be profits that you earned? Would that be considered stealing from you?

I never said I was right, only my opinion..the web stands for freedom to me.

Bad argument. (read: library) People buy books because they want to own the tangible book. It's nice to be able to take a book wherever you're going to read when you have free time, and it's nice to be able to re-read it if you're so inclined, even years later.

Comment about stealing the car: If you steal a car, the previous owner of the car no longer has the car, as you have taken it from him or her. Not so with mp3s; the analogy is more like he's got a car, and suddenly, just because you wanted one, you have one too.

Okay, so books are in libraries, music has the radio.. big woopditty. The main purpose for books is to create a tangible distribution method of a product and to collect royalties for the author. How else is the author supposed to make money in his profession when everything he creates is intellectual?

no..but I dont buy music cause it cost too much and think it is moraly ok to download them..I am no idiot..

Heh. You don't think it's 100% moral. I bet you wouldn't feel comfortable telling your favorite artist that you downloaded his/her album rather than paying for it. Who cares if it's moral or that other people agree with you. That won't make you download songs any faster.

Yeah...you need more bandwidth for that...

1. Cheap bastard!

2. You don't know your ass from a hole in the ground, and you obviously don't know many creative artists in any medium. Having been a professional musician and aspiring singer-songwriter, I can tell you for a fact, most are not bathing in champagne. In fact, for an artist, being good is just permission to be lucky.

3. You still don't know your ass from a hole in the ground.

4. I see. So you think the people who create all that great music should flip burgers all day so they can run home and play all night to entertain you. You get to suck up their creative work, but you don't think they've earned anything for creating it.

Conclusion -- YOU'RE A SCUM SUCKING LOWLIFE ASSHOLE! :|
