Do you think this computer can do dual vga?

So I am at work and we are trying to get dual monitors on a particular machine, a Dell Optiplex SX280, it has the Intel 915G chipset.

Currently there is a DVI-I out port on the back on the computer which is connected to a DVI-I->DVI-D + VGA Dongle.

Problem is, my boss has 2 VGA monitors, not a VGA and a DVI monitor.

I didn't look at the actual adapter to see that it was DVI-D before I opened my big mouth and said it was easy I would take care of it (since I had a DVI-I->VGA adapter at my apt). I was sorely disappointed when I realized this wasn't going to work.

So I got on with Dell and they said to do this: Get a DVI to VGA adapter and then a VGA->dual VGA adapter.

Do yall think that will actually work? I am inclined to think it will just duplicate the signal which is not what I want, however I wouldn't have thought you could get 2 monitors out of 1 DVI port anyways so that goes to show you what I know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

update: I got a vga splitter and just as I expected it didn't work, it just replicated the picture it wouldn't extend the desktop onto the 2nd monitor. I am just glad I got one at Fry's instead of pay Dell since I am going to take it back. Well, it looks like the only option is to buy a monitor with DVI.

I just owned that miserable computer. Not really, I just found another monitor attached to our server that has vga and dvi but was only hooked up through vga. After a little switcheroo everything is good to go. Thanks for all your help!

I've got a gx240 that came with two dongles for the ati7000 - one with both dvi and the other with both vga. Both work well. I imagine you can still get them at Dell. Have two 1600x1200 lcds on it. Amazing that this pc keeps on ticking...

Yeah the only other option would be to get something like an ATi FireMV half height dual DVI card. We use a lot of them at work, nice little cards!
