Do you think the Nexus S will be supported?

So I just watched a couple of videos outlining the hardware and software of the Nexus S (which will soon be coming to Canada). I looks like a pretty good phone. The only downfall for me is the lack of an SD card slot, and the lack of a physical camera button, but neither is a deal breaker for me.

My only major concern about the phone at this point is will this phone be supported? I know Samsung has not exactly been great as far a delivering Android updates, and fixes (such as for the GPS issue) to their Galaxy S users. Since this phone is basically Google's baby, do you think the support will be better and more timely for the Nexus S?

I don't want to own another phone which will never receive updates...

I think google and not samsung will be updating the Nexus S phone. I'd expect it to be supported.

You will receive updates straight from Google. So it will be supported until Google's next phone comes out. That being said, Google's customer service have been crap lately. Not even sure if they fixed the random rebooting during calls yet and phone calls is supposed to be the most important feature of a phone.

As others have said, you're relying on Google for Nexus S updates, not Samsung. Which seems to be the Nexus S's sole saving grace.

To be fair, Google has released 3 updates for the S so far, 2.3.1, 2.3.2, and now 2.3.3.

The S should be the first phone to "officially" run new versions of android until a new "Google Phone" comes out, but as others have said the CS may not be great (I, however, have never called tech support for my phone).

The Nexus One is still getting Froyo updates, and has a 2.3.x update coming for it. So you can probably expect support for some time after the next Nexus comes out.

I have the Nexus S and I have been receiving updates for gingerbread from google before other phones get it. Like other folks have been saying, this'll be true until the next Nexus comes out.

Well that's good news. The Nexus S may be by next phone. We get very little selection in Canada when it comes to android phones...

They need to stop saying this because its not true. The Nexus S will be getting support beyond that, just as the Nexus One just got a 2.2.2 update and is slated to get a 2.3.x update.

That's quite interesting actually. The Nexus One is still quite an appealing phone if it will continue to receive updates. Both have large screens, and 1GHz CPU's. Seems like the main advantage of the new Nexus is the better GPU.
