Do you think that the US will ever have another Revolutionary/Civil war?

What do you think will cause it? When would you forsee it happening, realistically?

Consider that the European Socialist Union countries have it much worse off and are still basically together.

We'll cut off books, music and all cultural materials to the flyover states.

Wait, they wouldn't notice.

Alright, we'll ban the 10 commandments from display in government buildings and outlaw inbreeding.

Yeah, that'll do it. :)

The government will slowly take away everyone's rights in the name of national security. Since "privacy" and "fair trial" is not specifically mentioned in the US Constitution, the government will label and imprison any one who opposes as enemies of the states.

End Social Security, shut down all Old Country Buffets, prohibit slot machines(ok, so ending social security might do that), and make mandatory drivers license retesting every 5 years after the age of 60...

The AARP would go postal.

Didn't South Park already do an episode like that?

The conservatives will have an all-out war with the liberals as our country gets seemingly more divided. The conservatives will win because they have more guns.

ofcourse, it's just a matter of time. some hot issue will come up and little by little the tension will mount until some stupid thing happens, most insignificant at any other time/place but it will be the trigger for civil war.....see israel right now, they full scale assault over palestine over one kidnapping, i mean i am glad they care about their citizens, but it does seem excessive. this might trigger a big ass war.

Also, the conservatives will win b/c they will actually do something active about the war, whereas the liberals will just be waiting around for the government to help them. ;)

Plus who would win - Texas gun lovers or California tree huggers?

Besides...who would the liberals have as a war strategist? Bill Clinton?

Its not just a kidnapping. Palestine has been violating cease-fire agreements left and right. Then Hamas agents burrow into Israel and kidnap a soldier. Since Hamas is the elected government of Palestine, that is an act of war (after all the other acts of war that Israel has only moderately responded to).

The populace isn't the same as the time of the revolutionary war. Back then when people complained about stuff, they picked up guns and started shooting at the problem. A lot of times that didn't work out to well for them, but they did try to do it. These days we just sit around and complain a whole lot, and don't even bother to try to solve the problems in ways that don't even involve the risk of death. The gasoline thing for instance...people b|tch about it all day, but no one actually does anything worthwhile about it.

Plus, it just isn't going to work. Say the new england tried to break with the union...the only way they could possibly do it IMO would be to get a whole lot of nukes and just threaten to nuke the living sh|t out of the rest of the nation if they even set one tank within their borders. Other nations aren't going to help the rebels or the US so they couldn't count on any supply lines. Either that or entrench themselves for a long, long drawn out guerilla war.

It would never work since most major cities lean one way and the rural areas lean another. No one state can secede without bitter in-fighting in the state itself.

correct, but it's the last straw for israel, a kidnapping, in other time/place that would of been dealt with differently.

It's possible but unlikely. The only way it could happen is if the government became so unpopular that a high ranking general was able to get his troops to fight AGAINST the United States. I think the country today is too different from the way it was in 1860 to have a civil war initiated by government figures, and our military would be able to react before an army could be assembled. In our civil war the South had 3 months between secession and when Lincoln took office, because Buchanan wasn't willing to do anything about it.

The only possbility i can think of is if there was a massive virus outbreak and certain states contained vaccines and certain states didn't. Let say there was only enough vaccines for half the country and a few major states held it. If the government wasn't able to efficiently distribute the drugs then there would be civil unrest and if the central gov begins to shake then states might look towards succession. But none of this will happen as long as the majority of the US still believes in the central government

LOL... you can buy pretty much anything if you have enough money... and our borders are so wide open they could drive armored columns across from mexico and canada and noone would notice...

there are enough black market weps in the US to fight a sustained war... and with 3/4 of the US Military being overseas these days the response time would be horrible and then it would be reservists...

or tired front line units on turnaround time...

yes it could happen.. and prolly will if they keep taking rights away as they have been...

If it doesn't happen soon, it won't happen for hundreds of years. I think we are heading for a 1984/Equilibrium/Logan's Run/Minority Report, situation. Loss of freedoms, destruction or removal of of art(think religion vs state), forced living in cities, and thought crime prosecution(i.e. hate crimes). Once this is complete, I think you need an external force to break out.

Yes, I am paranoid.

Will it ever have one? doubtfull.

does it need to happen. personally i think it does.

but times have changed. the beliefs that founded this country are buried under the thoughts of "what big HDTV do i buy this year?" etc. its no longer for the people it seems to be more of for the money. so whoever has more money gets the laws and power.

it makes me sad actually. i have had family that fought in almost every war the US has been in. the sacrifices they made for what they believed in, is now washed away.
