Do you think that a Dell Inspiron 8200 might be able to run Doom III decently?

Don't think so. I'm not even sure my Desktop equipped with ATI 9000 is ready for Doom III.

DoomIII is only really semi-playable on an ATI 9700. You can get by on a GF4 ti4600, but you are going to experience extreme FPS slow downs when you actually get to some action.

However, this is an unauthorized and unoptimized Alpha release. When the full retail version is realeased Q2 next year it may run on lesser video cards. Carmack has stated thought that even the beefiest of cards will only get at max 60 FPS with the resolution cranked next summer. So I think that it is safe to say that you will need at least a 9700 to really play it...

Yes, your laptop should be able to run it decently. Most likely only at 800 x 600 with some of the high-end effects off, but she'll run IMO. When people say it will be choppy with 9700's that because they have their resolution at > 1024 x 768 with best AA, etc. on. Of course that's going to happen...

"Yes, your laptop should be able to run it decently."

We don't know if he has the Dell Inspiron 8200 with ATI Mobility 9000 64MB or nVidia GF4 Go 32MB version. You're not telling TazExprez that he can play doom III with 32MBs of graphics memory are you? Just playing devil's advocate. OK.;)

IF you get the ATI 9000 with 64MB of ram, it should run fine. (but most likely not at 1024x768 with all details maxed, I'd say 800x600 with a few things turned off)

It's way too early to say anything. By that time we will see a couple new generations of vidcards and from what the past has shown: 3 generations behind can usually run new games, but at low fps and detail; 2 generations behind can run them with med/high detail with playable fps; new cards can run usually at high detail with a nice fps.

It probably will decently when it's done and optomized...as it is neither right now.

It's awfully early to say with any certainly, and I'm not convinced that the Alpha release is even remotely a reliable indicator of performance in the final release.
Nonetheless, I'm quite confident you will be able to run it.... what detail level and resolution is questionable though.
My guess would be 800x600 at very low details, or 640x480 at medium to high detail.

As with everyone else though, this is merely an educated guess that may well turn out to be completely inaccurate.

I think id will tune their code for Doom3 to the point where a GF3 TI200 will be able to be fairly decent on it. Just think about. How is id going to sell a hit if most people's computers can't even handle it.
