Do you think some hardware is futureproof?

"Intel did have a couple multithreaded game demonstrations running on the IDF floor, including RoboLords, the first publicly shown game based on the Unreal Engine 3. Intel commissioned the game as a tech demo, and hasn't announced yet if the game will be a retail release or part of a multicore software bundle. The early revision of the game we saw taxed the system heavily--the game was running at 25fps at 640x480 on system with a Radeon X850 XT and a dual-core Pentium Processor." - Gamespot.com

This goes to show that you should never plan or buy hardware for future games because today's hardware is meant for today's games. Also the fact that games get delayed and new hardware gets released all the time makes it even more dangerous to spend big $$$ to think you are set 2 years down the road -- I am sure anyone who planned for HL2 ended up with slow videocards by the time HL2 came out. So users who plan to upgrade for Unreal 3 should take a chill pill.

Nothing is future proof.

I do have to say that I'd called the S2895UA2NRF pretty damn future resistant though.

Define future. I define it as "When I'm ready to upgrade again in two years." So hell yeah, mine is futureproof.

Id say, my klipsch Ultra Promedia 5.1 are futureproof. Im not going to buy another PC oriented computer speaker. Next audio "upgrade" will be in many years when i can afford a pair of B&W Prestige class Nautilus speakers and the associated electronic equipment.

After that, my monitors have lasted through several builds.

Third would be the case.

My floppy drive is futureproof. :)

Hard drives are essentially futureproof, barring failure.

My Seagate 160gb hd is future proof for the next 5 years ATLEAST. As is my floppy. Anything else isn't. Think about it, 10 years what was around? IDE hard drives, 3.5 inch floppies, and, 80mm fans? laff.

Network cards are somewhat futureproof. At home i'm using a 3com card that is at least 5 years old, probably closer to 8 or so.

The only thing I can think of ATM is case fans & mouse pads. They're future proof. Monitors are close. HDDs aren't a bad guess, but I'm getting annoyed at load times in games and thinking of trying to score a 10k rpm job.
