Well I'll be honest, I don't consider myself a nerd. In real life if you knew me I am far from a nerd. If we were grouped into a room I would be an outcast for sure. I do not fit the profile of a nerd nor do I hang around nerds. I only know true nerds online lol. Sorry if you aren't a nerd. I just thought I'd say nerd to fit in.

Exactly.

Time is a human concept, therefore, altering it would do nothing. All time is is a measurement of how many times the earth has gone around the sun, how many times the moon has gone around the earth, and how many times the earth has spun.
Most people have fooled themselves into believing that if we do something stupid like make a clock go backwards, but again, a clock is only a representation of what has happened, not a device to control what is happening. Making the earth spin backwords won't work... it would do a good job of throwing gravity to hell and quite possibly destroying everything on earth, as well as the earth itself.

It's funny that someone made this thread. Apparently I'm a nerd, because I was so bored in one of my classes today that I started thinking about if time travel is really possible.

Hello ATOT posters..... I have come from the future to warn you that if you keep up this nonsensical talk about time travel, someone's going to slap you silly.

Actually, I think that the proof that humans will never invent time-travel is that we don't see people from the future travelling back to now.

Gravity isn't appreciably affected by the spin of the planet, it's affected by the planet's mass and density. If Earth were to suddenly start spinning in the opposite direction, the effects would pretty much be limited to changes in weather and possibly seismic/volcanic activity. I doubt it would destroy the planet.

if earth were to suddenly stop spinning..... that'd suck for humans... most of us would wind up dead. Think about how fast you're travelling right now.... circumference of the earth per 24 hours. Roughly 1000 miles per hour. Given Newton's 1st law, if the Earth stops, I'm going to continue moving at 1000 mph, at least until I smack into the first tree, mountain, or building in my path, or until I skid to a stop. Let's see... if I jump out of a car at 50 miles per hour and skid to a stop..... at 1000 mph, I'll possess only 400 times as much kinetic energy...

True. But assume that "suddenly" meant "over the course of ten weeks." Of course, the only way I know of for a planet's spin to become reversed in nature is for something large to strike it a "glancing blow," i.e. another planet, asteroid, comet, etc. If that were the case, we'd have bigger problems than bad weather.
