Do you think of yourself as a above average driver?

They say most people consider themselves to be above average when it comes to driving skills.

I once drove from Tenn. to Mo. during a long weekend while I was in the service. It was the only time in my life when I was certain I was going to die! This guy was the worst driver I have EVER seen and since his car was new to him, he wouldn't let me drive. I eventually lay down in the back seat and waited for death. There were SO many instances where he almost killed us both that I really never thought I would see another sunrise.

When we finally got to Mo. I flew back rather than riding with him again.

I have no doubt that HE thought he was a good driver....

How well do YOU think you handle a motor vehicle?

I would say I am a very safe and somewhat conservative driver. I probably would not be a good race car driver, nor would I care to be.

IMO, good driving is not about any kind of skill, it's attentiveness. I pay attention when I'm driving, so I think I'm a good driver. 7 years and no accidents, but that's not anything impressive. I don't have 1337 boyracer skills with the double clutching and the heel-toe and the drifting, but that's probably why I've never gotten in an accident. :)

I think I'm pretty darn good. Though I do have to learn to drive a stick some day. So right now I'm just handy with the auto.

I would love to go to Skip Barbers Racing School...I'm average at best, I don't think my above average GT4 skills would equate into above average real world skills. Anyone ever go to a racing school?

"I drive like old people fvck"

Definitely not like a stereotypical 20-somethings. I drive exactly the speed limit, and I use signals even if I'm the only person around. My wife gets mad at me for driving so slow.

Although I'm not all over the road like old people fvck.

I drove in Ithaca winters. I know all about it. But at least I had enough sense to drive a FWD car. First an '86 Celebrity and then a '95 Grand Am. I once drove from PA to Ithaca in a wicked snow storm. I was on Rt 79 and the cars were going so slow that they were sliding of the road and into the ditch! They were all too stupid to realize that just like there's no replacement for displacement, in snow, there's no replacement for speed. If you don't have enough speed there's no way you can climb snowy/icy hills and you WILL slide into the ditch! So when I couldn't take it any longer I started passing out these dumb slow moving cars on a two lane road totally covered in snow. I know it was crazy but I had to or otherwise I would have ended up in a ditch. But it was so much fun!!!! My sister can attest to it as she was in the passenger seat. Ok, she might not say that it was fun because she was screaming like mad but I got her to Ithaca safe and sound, while many, many other people ended up in ditches that night (including SUV's/AWD's/etc).

I'm a below average driver.

I'm not very attentive, often driving with no hands, one knee, etc. I adjust the radio, talk on the phone, pick my nose, drink beverages, eat, etc. I've been in far more accidents than most people, and have a terrible case of road rage.

I think I'm a pretty good driver...

With all my driving courses/driving training plus my autocrossing I think I can handle a vehicle pretty well...

One of the first things my dad made me do when I was learning to drive was find each and every performance limit on each and every vehicle we have. "This is the only time I EVER want you to lay down rubber." And quite frankly, it was so fvcking terrifying that, until recently, the speed limit was the fvcking limit. Heh. I *STILL* use the suggested speeds on most turns and on ALL ramps.

Hell, that's a daily winter commute around here. Takes mad skilz to do it in a RWD land barge, though! Hmmm, does that mean our local cops all have mad driving skilz?

I know the limits of my car.

But I found them on a closed course. ;)
