Do you think my pc can handle BF3?

I'm curious, do you think my pc will be able to run BF3 @ 1920x1200? This is the only game that I'm really excited for this year. I was able to run Witcher 2 on ultra settings (with ubersampling off) @ 1920X1200 and got somewhere between 27-35 frames. My current set up is:

cpu: Core i5 2500k (stock)
gpu: XFX HD 6870 Black Edition (Core clock @ 940Mhz, memory clock at 4.6Ghz)
Memory: 4GB Corsair Vengeance
Hard Drive: 1TB Low powered 5900RPM. (I'll have to upgrade this in the future...)

Or do you guys think i should upgrade to a HD 6970 by the time BF3 is out?

Personally I would hold off until bf3 is a couple of weeks from release and assess the situation then. I'm not the type to spend $300+ on a card that is on the way out. But if money is no object then go ahead and get a 6970.

That setup should play BF3 well enough, just don't expect to be able to bump up resolution and graphics details up at the same time. A quick RAM upgrade might do some good.

No way, you need SB-E and tri-sli gtx 580's to have any sort of playable settings.

At least that's my guess. Of course, you could always just wait for the game to come out...

This is a joke, right?

OP, your setup is fine. You won't be able to play it on the highest of settings at your native resolution, but you should be able to play it perfectly well on medium-high settings.

I'd definitely oc the cpu to 4.5ghz and throw a couple of 6970's in just to be sure.

Yes, it was a joke. Every time a new game comes out, people with bleeding-edge systems start asking months ahead of time if they need to upgrade. In almost every instance it is better for them to actually play the game first before making that decision.

the 2500k is one of the worlds fastest desktop CPU ,,,, the K stands for being able to unlock and overclock to 4.0 or 4.5Ghz

You have one of the fastest video cards around. You SLIed them on top of that.

Try to remove the SLI ,, take out the second video card and boot up and let us know how your videos are playing.. thx gl

I never understood the idea of upgrading before a game you really like actually comes out:

1) Videocard prices generally tend to fall. So the longer you wait the better off you are.

2) It gives you a chance to play the game on your current card and see if you actually need the upgrade.

3) It gives you a chance to see if the game runs faster on NV vs. AMD in reviews. So when you do decide to purchase an upgrade card, you are in a better position to buy the more optimal card.

4) More time may result in even newer/faster cards to be released (in this case HD7000 series), which changes the videocard landscape/upgrading suggestions entirely.

5) The game may actually be delayed (people have short memory ah?). I guess I was there when people blew $ to "future-proof" with the 9800 XT 256mb to play HL2. ^_^ That worked out great for them.....

Agree that you should wait to see whether you even need to upgrade the GPU.

DO get another 4 gig of RAM if you have 64 bit Windows. Dirt cheap right now.

I'm amazed no one jumped on your dog of a HD! 5900 rpm for a boot drive?
Get a 500G or 1T 7200 rpm SATA3 HD NOW! Yes, right bleeding NOW!
Not a SSD - too expensive, not enough reliability yet.

How could you hogtie a decent system with a storage drive? For shame!

Yeah, you'll suffer from overly long load times with that 5900rpm drive. LOL.

Wait until 580GTXs come down in price and you should be golden for BF3.

If a 2500k and a 6870 is not enough then pc gaming has some serious problems. That is what 4 times the cpu and 4 times the gpu power of an xbox360?

Judging by the alpha benchmarks that are out, I'd say it's likely enough to play at comfortable settings. I'm hoping a 6870 and a 3GHz Q6600 will be adequate.
edit: RussianSensation's benchmarks were done with 0 players, so I'd expect the fps to be lower in populated servers. However, it's also an alpha build of the game.

What?
It's about time we have a game that makes you wonder if a high-end GPU/CPU is enough or not.
We have a serious problem if 2011 PC games are able to run on a 6 years+ old tech.

You forget that in this case the consoles don't only get worse graphics than the PC, it gets less players and such too

Some jackass impregnated this forum with the notion BF3 will destroy all not realizing it's one of the most popular *CONSOLE* games in America right now.

People were asking the same stupid questions about Crysis 2, your system will be fine.

PC was the lead platform for BF3, unlike Crysis 2. Btw, Crysis 2 is very demanding and looks very good.

I would say anyone with a phenom II/core 2 quad @ 3.0+ and a gtx560ti/6950 will be fine for BF3 @ 1080p at high details.

BF3 marketing team is succeeding in generating hype.

Its going to be released on the consoles, so of course, the development of the game will be like many others, but here they make the differentiation that its not a console port. So how will it play and look great on consoles, is the same exact reason PC gamers will be able to play with settings to get gameplay fps.

http://www.vg247.com/2011/04/15/dice-bf3-will-look-better-on-consoles-due-to-pc-being-lead-platform/
“In theory you could argue that you’re building it for a more powerful platform and that it will look crappy on consoles. That’s not the case because when you build the target high, you can then pick and choose from the target and ask what actually creates this picture and then pick the best things from that and turn that into your console solution.
“The other thing that is very interesting is that since you’re building the engine based on the knowledge that you will release it on the consoles, you actually streamline the whole technology to be able to scale back to the weaker platforms. So in the end, by, you know, painting this high-end target, you actually set a new bar and then when you scale it back.
“I think people will be surprised to see how good it looks on the consoles. We can’t show it right now, because we’re aiming to use the PC to set the bar, but it’s actually helping us make a better console game.”
Battlefield 3 is out later this year on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Notty22, what's your picture supposed to show? You have 3 pictures showing an explosion and 1 without.

I just included it from the Nvidia link as a 'eye grabber'. Its a good interview with the developer and there are other pictures to go along with the narrative there.
