Do you think my Antec True 430W PSU will run a 6800?

Please don't answer this, it's just a parodyof all the insane speculation I've seen about these things of late, all over these boards.

I don't really care if it will or not, I'll adjust accordingly.

I'm going to want to be seeing some mondo benches though, the 5800 U is a tough act to follow. 😉

Absolutely not... you will have to buy the nVidia WattForce (nVidia's new line of Power supplies ironically being debuted tomorrow as well) and to be extra cautious you'd better buy the new nVidia GoUPS (their branded battery backups). These are all nVidia "certified" to work with the 6800 Ultra. Power to the N baby!! 😉

well.. true..

and i won't answer that (but i really want to say that antec's suck and enermax is the only way to go cause well, it's like a galapagos turtle and a mule ox and umm which would you rather have????), but let's say the nv40 or r420 just doesn't have to coolness factor of your 5800u.. gonna just say "pass" and keep the ole nv30? 😀

YeeeeeeeeeeAAAAAAAAAARRRGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!! Cainam! If you have three 80mm case fans wired parallel, those separate amps on the Antec deliver .0000121 mA more to the 12V rail!
Let's say you're trying to light up the City of Los Angeles, and you can have Gilligan on his generator bike charging batteries the Professor has made with parts from the SS Minnow and things he found on the island, or a hydroelectric dam MacGyver built in outflow pipe of his toilet?!?!?! If MacGyver eats his fiber, his dam generates TWICE as much juice as Gilligan, and could light TWO houses instead of ONE!
What would you rather have? A tree frog or a mongoose?!?!?! A tree frog or a mongoose?!?!!?

😉

BTW- I imagine I'll end up with one of the new cards, how quickly that happens will depend on how much they roxor boxorz and if Doom3 is in the box. (hint: Doom 3 is a day one order, if it's <$600.)

omg.. thank you for that... i got a hella good laff out of that! the gilligan part had me bustin a gut before i even finished reading the rest 😀

you know.. i think "when" doom3 will actually be out is a better kept secret than nv40 specs tho lol...

in response to the original question, yes, why wouldn't it? I think the power requirement for the 6800 is going to be 400 watts.

Actually Sneaky, I saw somewhere that it was 480W, so the question may be valid. IMO, if you want to buy a top end card for $400, $500, ? you're not going to let the psu requirement stand in your way.

I can see it now, "Gol darn it! I only have $500 to piss down the rat hole on a card that will be worth $200 in a year and almost obsolete! Where am I gonna dig up $100 for a new psu?!"

You're welcome Cainam, glad to give you a laugh.

I'm going to buy a big diesel generator like big supermarkets use for emergency power and use that to power the new 6800 😀

Actually, MikeC (NVNews owner) posted in his forums that his 6800(U, I presume) is running fine off his Antec 430W. 🙂 There was some debate as to which model he had, though, because of the number of power connectors he said he had.

Man, $400 for a 256MB R420 or NV40 will be amazing compared to previous prices.

Well, if you aren't sure, and you don't want to push your luck, a new PSU might be in order, but mabye we should wait and see what the Retail 6800's require? From an official source? I mean, doesn't make much sense to speculate over what we really don't know just yet.

Err Sneaky, that's what I'm saying with this thread. Too much pointless speculation. I even said I don't really care what psu it takes.
