Do you think most pro athletes collect their cards?

Was watching a basketball game today and my daughter asked me if the pros collect their own cards. I never really thought about it before, but I would think most probably do. I know if I was a pro, I would collect every card every produced with my name on it!

Does Nolan Ryan have every card he was pictured on? Michael Jordan? Bo Jackson?

why would they? Having said that, the card companies probably mail them one.

Yes, some do.

I have been in the card collecting, and selling, market for almost 30 years. Have been on e-bay for the better part of the past 10 years and have sold to prospects, current, and former professional players including their families. I have also heard the same from many other sellers over the past decade(s).

Interestingly enough, some start out as collectors before they hit the bigs. Phil Hughes was a regular member of a few different trading boards (a BIG Hank Conger collector) before being called up to the bigs, as well as a handful of others...

Pros collect "cards" that Franklin's picture is on....
And cards are printed because pros want more "cards" with Franklin for themselves...

If they were smart, they'd buy a shitload when they were rookies. Then, after they retired, (provided they had a successful career), they'd be able to sell SIGNED rookie cards in mint condition for an additional revenue stream.

This only works if you're a generation defining player.

Pro athletes should just autograph football's/baseball's etc. and sell them. who needs cards. I have this Dan Marino football I've been trying to get rid of, but don't have a certificate of authenticity, it's a pain in the ass if you don't have one.

A friend of mine is a pro and he has a headboard made out of his rookie cards. It's quite high and plastered in cards and covered in plastic or some resin. I also think he got it in one sheet from the company. I won't even tell you what his bathroom looks like :)
