Do you think it's good or bad...

Do you think it's good or bad that people buy shiet on a "whim"? Sure it helps our economy but that also means that it's a false economy in the sense that people are in severe debt because of their uncontrollable spending. It's such a problem I can even see it on this forum! Sigh, what do you think?

You shouldn't buy anything if you can't pay for it. The items I buy on "whims" are all items that I can afford. No sense in going into debt to buy something you really don't need.

If I max out one card, I always have another. The CC companies should probably stop sending me all this plastic. It's their fault anyway.

You do realize they make money off of the interest you pay on those cards. It's when you DON'T pay back those cards, thats when it becomes a problem..

As long as you have money to spare, buying things on a whim is not bad. Saving up for things gives me a sense of purpose in earning money (aside from paying rent and bills).

Nope, it kept beeping, but I just simply turned it off, kind of like when that stupid smoke alarm goes off in the kitchen, waking me up from my slumber...:|

WTF?

If you set aside an "entertainment budget" and use that for buying stuff on a whim, it's good. But if you over stretch your income by doing that, it's bad.

I probably buy about $100/mo of stuff on a whim (not counting food). Usually it's a game or something like that. I go into each month expecting to do that. When I want to get something more than that, I need to sit down and investigate my finances.
