The real question is would you want everyone to live forever. If no one died, this world would be more populated than it already is, and all of earth's resources would be dried up in an instant.
Maybe not an instant, but yes.. that is the problem.

Obviously births already outpace deaths, but just imagine if deaths from natural causes suddenly ceased.. :Q

Except that if people had a couple of hundred years to learn, we'd have so much more experience to draw on. I'd bet a lot of problems would get solved by people who have lived long enough to get three or four educations, have multiple carrers, etc...

I think it may be physically possible to... but mentally or emotionally... I sincerely doubt that anyone has the strength to live forever.

I'll be lucky to make it to my natural physical death. :p

I certainly wouldn't ever in a million years wish that.

Agreed.Does it have any bearing on physical looks?

Nope.

I think average age might increase slightly, but then again, with the lack of healthy food these days, maybe it'll decrease instead.

Personally, I am very comfortable with the concept of death. You do what you can in your time and then you die. It's just like what the scientist told Batty in the movie Blade Runner: revel in your time.

Frankly, however, I do not believe that anyone can say if they would want to live forever or not unless they actually had the option. I think it is a lot like jumping out of an airplane, until you are actually at the door of the airplane ready to jump you cannot really say at the moment whether you would or would not.

I wouldn't think so (at least not near future). I remember in the NYTimes, they published an article about how some scientist prolonged the life of fruitflies by selective breeding. He would only let the longer living fruitflies lay their eggs, so after a few generations, he had fruit files that were living twice as long as the first generation. Though, with humans, this process may be a bit more challenging and Hitleresque.
this describes the book "Methuselah's Children" which had a group of people doing the same thing causeing some of them to have a lifespan of 300+years.
anyway, the lifespan could be extended, but people might not like it. how would u like to live as an old man 75 years instead of 40? u'd get bored of life and probablly comit suicide. so while i do think it is possible, it will be difficult. a great book that deals with exactally these issues is called: "Time enough for Love" by Rober Heinlein. read it. it's a good read.
