I'd say hell yes. Also, I wouldn't wait for 1080p. Only a few such sets are available right now and they're *twice* the price of 720p/1080i sets, and given that most HD content is broadcast in 720p, the 1080p won't make any real difference. We're a good 3 years too early for 1080p to be really *affordable* and *worthwhile*.

Before you jump the gun, find out which channels are available in hdtv and which shows on those channels are really worth the investment.

Exactly. Having a TV that can do 720p/1080i/1080p doesn't even mean you'll get the full experience. I have DirecTV HD, and it can be best described as HD-lite. None of their meager HD lineup sports a full-bandwidth resolution, so technically you aren't getting what you're paying for.

Whether you're looking at DirecTV, Dish, or local cable, you need to research it a bit and make sure you'd be getting what you pay for. Check out avsforum.com for tons of more info from people in the know.

What do you mean when you say they don't have full-bandwidth resolution? I ask because I can't tell the difference between my OTA locals, and the locals that DirecTV sends. They look blah when you compare them to HDnet or Discovery. Those two channels are outstanding, the others are just OK. Can you explain why that is?

..I bought that same Sceptre at costco. I don't use the tuner. Use it only for dvd's..so far it's great. Watching all my movies over again. Some dark scenes do get pixelized once in a while but otherwise it's great. Lots of luminous and chroma..I'm using the S-vid.connection.

I'd go with DLP, too. I recently (3 weeks ago) bought a Samsung HLP-6163 DLP, 61 inches, and I have to tell you the picture is *gorgeous* from almost any viewing angle, games look great, movies look great. I use component for everything except the old systems like PS2, Dreamcast, SNES, etc. (those get either Svideo or composite, depending on what they support).

For my PC I use the DVI, and it looks *sweet*.
