I'm in need a a real job, since making and delivering pizzas isn't cutting it anymore. I live right next to my local Gateway Country Store, and I stopped by there today. I asked some of the employee how they liked their job, etc. All of them were happy working there. They have two part time openings. This is great for me since I'm about to start going to college. They also pay comission, and they pay $9.50 an hour.

The only thing that I am worried about is appearing very professional to customers. Plus, I'm a little shy around people that I don't know.

So, should I get this job?

BTW - I live in Panama City, FL. WE have VERY few high paying jobs here since we are a tourist town.......

SHHHHH - don't tell anyone!

I guess the main reason why I'm biased twards Gateway is that I grew up in South Dakota, where the company originated, and I grew up around Gateway computers. While I still think building your own computer is the best way to go, but I I would still be willing to buy a Gateway. Maybe something is wrong with me

I'd say go for it!

Why?

Well, you can work on your professionalism, and practice getting over being shy. The truth is - these are skills you will need throughout your life. All the "career advice" and "job workshop" talk that I hear says you need to get yourself noticed - and, if you are casual and shy, that's not likely to happen. But if you can practice being a professional, and learn to talk to people, that will make a big difference!

(FYI: I'm 22, and I used to be terribly shy & quiet; still am, in certain situations. But I'm learning to get out & talk to people at social events, and it makes a big difference - a lot more opportunities open up that way!)

Draknor: Thanks for the advice. Yes, I really need ot build my peopel skills. I think I'm a friendly person. I think the hardest part will be when I first start working, since I'm really unfamiliar with selling thinks (excepts pizzas over the phone :p )

ScottyB: Yea, for Panama City (AKA - Hickville), that is a very high paying job. It beats my current $5.75 per hour :)

Do you need a job? If the answers yes then go for it.

Hell, anythings better than delivering pizzas....except being a janitor at an adult peepshow facility.

Go for it, just don't expect much long term. Gateway's losing money hand over fist and if things don't change fast, you're probably not going to have it for very long.

I believe gateway is getting back to the basics and hopefully will take some of dell's edge away.

GWCountry stores don't really care if you're very knowledgable about computers. Some knowledge is nice, but they'd rather you be a natural salesman, spouting their sales pitches and specials.
