Do you think eBay feedback is a joke?

How often do you rate somebody "A+++ seller. would do business with again" even if service was fair (and not outstanding like the above description appears) ? I know i do, and i wonder how many millions of other people do the same. It's nice to see negative feedback, and how the seller responds to it to get a feel for the character of the person. Generally, their post-comments to negative feedback will convince me whether or not to do business with them.

On that note, do you think ebay feedback is a joke?

It's a joke. Just about everyone leaves positive in fear of receiving retalitory feedback if otherwise.

also a great point. i know i should have left negative feedback a few times, but feared them giving it in retaliation.

I find it interesting that the feedback system so paralyzes people that there are a lot of known bad sellers out there with little or no negative feedback (there is a watch seller named Sophon_1, or variations thereon, that is infamous on the Seiko/Citizen Forum, yet always maintains a good eBay record). It does seem to defeat the purpose. I definitely read people's bad feedback before bidding, though.
 
They need to make it so feedback either doesn't show up until both parties have posted feedback, or if only one person does post it, so that it appears only after feedback can't be left on that transaction any longer.
 
Until I joined this board, I naively took feedback on face value. I checked it carefully before placing a bid and worked hard to earn all my positives. Once I started trading on the FS/WTB forum here, I learned how useless it seems to be. I knew there were scammers of feedback on Ebay, but did not realize how many ppl here would think it is all junk. I think it is just as easy, if not easier to fake and scam heatware, to be honest.

I have only ever left one neg. An azzhat used BIN on my laptop then found a cheaper one. He lasted three days on Ebay, btw. I try to only trade with honest ppl, and read all auctions careful before bidding. Likewise, I am honest in my descriptions and clear on my TOS. I have left two neutrals. Both for packing and shipping poorly (imagine putting a fendi in a paper envelope???) I have not left any feedback a few times. Couldnt with a clear conscience. Being gouged on shipping and the like, but I soon learned to ASK FIRST, BID AFTER!

I still think that if one checks the feedback carefully... it matters before I bid.

it can be. negatives CAN be removed. of course there are some negatives that shouldn't have been there but there are others where people can easily be bought and have them remove their negatives.
 
what I dont get, is why ebay, heatware etc dont go to a rating scale... not just +/-
I mean 1-10 or 5 star or SOMETHING a bit more adjustable seems like it would be in order. If somebody has 100 reviews and their average review is 9.5 then it be a safe bet they are damn near flawless... now 100 reviews with an average of 7.5... there maybe some bad transactions in there...

It just seems theres not enough "room for judgement" things arent always black or white

I remember when feedback was different. It just listed how many pos, neutral, and negs and how many total feedbacks....

Now it is a % system whereby neutrals dont count. that is stupid cause someone could get 15 neutrals out of 20 transactions and it would not be held against their % rating.

yeaP I recall those days too... however even that was retarded as its just 3 options... EVERYTHING in this world is "on a scale from 1-10" why not feedback for Ebay and Heatware. Or allow people to rate the stages of the sale: Intial communications, payment, shipping, packageing etc etc...

Dont make me school you ebay!!!!
 
All of my asian friends that sell on ebay are constantly making crap auctions and winning it for the other just to leave feedback.
 
Well it's better than before. At least now it tells you if the feedback was due to a sale or buy. Sadly, the morons didn't bother have the %'s reflect the same! Feedback removal is also now very easy if both parties agree to it. But the major fundamental flaw is how a feedback has zero weight of the price of the item. It's just wrong that a $1 auction item is worth the same weight as $1000 item.
