I am sure some have managed to do it.

What makes it difficult is anyone planning to fake their death is probably doing so for a reason that will make the authorities take a very hard look at their disappearance/death because of the motive involved.

If you have no reason to fake your death, than doing so becomes much easier because any investigation would be rather superficial.

In either case, I think a key to success is to try and create your alternate identity first, ideally, year(s) in advance. Establish some history, activity before the date you kill off the old you.

Of course doing so without leaving a trail of breadcrumbs back to your old identity will be tricky and pose risks.

Yeah, I thought it would be good to try and start building a fake person a first. Not sure how you would go about doing that though; maybe get a credit card in a new name, rent an apartment or something. Sounds expensive.

Wouldn't that be a contradiction? I mean who could they have successfully faked their own death if i knew about it?

Sorry if this has already been said. Too tired to go through the whole thread.

Andy Kaufman. These links are in order from the oldest to newest allegations so you can appreciate the extreme weirdness factor going on here.

And a popular fan favorite:
Richard "Dick" Whitman who assumed the identity of Donald "Francis" Draper. Oh snap, he's not real.

Heh, before my time, but very interesting. Lot's of familiar names who don't post here anymore. :(

Yeah faking a death could be difficult; would need a body.

not necessarily , just drive into a river at night with the window down and swim away and get out miles down stream. I've actually considered doing this years ago. or swim out into the ocean.
