Do you think aniamals get embarassed?

Heh.. good question. I think my dog gets self-conscious sometimes 🙂 Especially if I'm looking directly at him.

My first cat (named Tender) had extra toes. It looked really cute, but came with some problems. Extra toes meant extra claws to get stuck on stuff, and she was always embarassed to get caught in a predicament. I remember once I saw her get snagged on the side of a bed and she sat there yawning with her paw attached to the mattress as if nothing was the matter. When she saw me look at her she tried to hide it, and when I went to help her get unsnagged, she got really mad.

just watch the next time a cat falls off something. they quickly start calmly walking away, trying to not look foolish.
you just have to laugh at them.

My dog chewed up her collar (it was by the shoe rack). Everytime I show her the chewed-up collar, she'd look embrassed and even full of guilt.

My dog started humping his favourite toy (I think it was an old Care Bear stuffed animal at the time) while there were at least 8 people in the room. We all started laughing at him, and he hasn't humped *anything* since (~5 yrs). 😉

Hehe... funny stories.

I also wonder if animals find humor in anything, and how they express it. How would a dog laugh at another dog?

animals <--notice correct spelling

...is it possible that you are projecting this 'recognition' of embarssment onto the animals? A dog or cat might act differently after falling or knocking down a lamp, but they are probably just freaked by the experience...but who will ever know?

I don't think animals are intelligent enough to be embarrassed. Most of the time I think when they look embarassed it's because they were laughed at before (life the dog with the care bear) and think they did something wrong so it's guilt.
