I think it's a lot more than people think. Sometimes I question a lot of the products on ebay. For instant replacement blades for my razors cost 26.99 at walmart. That tells me walmart probably buys them for 23 or 24 dollars. On ebay they go for 21.99 with free shipping. Where do these people get these razors? Theres no way they can buy them cheaper than walmart. It seems like it would be easy for a theif to grab a handful at a store and walk out and ebay them for 200.00 profit.

I bet you there's just as much counterfeit or "knockoff" stuff being passed as the real thing as well. It's very possible those blades are made by some other company for half the price of the originals.

But yeah, I'd have to assume a lot of the stuff there is stolen as well.

I'm sure a lot of stuff is stlen but a lot is bought in wholesale lots (store closings, distributors). Maybe WallyWorld is screwing you a little more than you thought.

Also, what does sams club have them for?

I bet they pay a LOT less than that. Retail markup is quite high.

Wal-mart sells an item at pennies more than it buys it at. There was a good article about this a few weeks ago posted in P&N....search for it

I'll tell you a story. My roommate in college ended up being a cop in a very affluent north shore suburb of Chicago. About 10 years ago he got married and one of the guys that stood up in the wedding was a friend from his police dept. I haven't talked to him in about 5 years now, but I remember his friend. A few years back they found out that a cop was breaking into houses in this suburb and then fencing the goods on Ebay. When they caught the guy, they found stolen goods in the trunk of the squad. I couldn't believe it. You think you know people..

Anyway.. To answer your question, I think that a good number of things that get sold on Ebay are stolen.

That's what I mean. Theres no way Joe Smoe Ebayer has enough buying power to buy an item and sell it 5 dollars cheaper than walmart. IT would be different if it was a one time auction (maybe someone got it as a gift and didn't want it) but there are several.

No they make pesos...but when u have 1000's of stores you make millions of pesos a day...it ads up and they are able to turn a pretty substancial profit.
Also Sams is a MEMBERSHIP club remeber...thats where their profit factors in...every year you pay that preium and those pennies they loose come back to them :p

sure, why not? I used to know someone that stole stuff from his work and sold them on EBay. Things like Crest Whitestrips were fairly small and I guess they sell easily on Ebay. He's a complete loser regardless and not someone I would ever do business with anyways, but yes as far as I'm concerned there's probably a lot of stolen items on ebay.

Yes I know Sams is Walmart and I know they have a membership fee. That membership fee ($30) got me :

1. Tires for my Z $80 cheaper than anyone else including Walmart. Actually cheper than that because I hit something in the road and the tire couldn't be repaired so they gave me another.

2. I save $6 over anywhere else (including walmart) on the Port I drink.

3. I get my ink cartridges a few bucks less than anyone else sells them.

Same with my disposable cameras, my wifes contacts and glasses, condoms, trash bags, laundry soap, dog food, etc.

I get way over my $30 in savings over walmart.

i think a lot of stuff on ebay is stuff people have stolen from their employers, probably not that much stuff that "burglars" or "real" thieves have stolen

I agree with Fobot

many things on Enay are probably stolen fromk Wal-Mart, Sam's, Costco.

I have been offered WalMart computers for $300 (best that wal mart had) DVD players etc for $50 when they were selling for $150.

Basically big companies are probably having more problem with employee theft than they have with customer theft. One way I hear that this happens is that a night shift guy with throw computer, dvd players etc in the dumpster out back and later retrieve it. I am sure they get much more creative than this but the point is that employees can and many will steal much more than they are ever paid. Once they sell the stolen item they are making a pretty good income unfortunately.

A knew a lady that managed the electronics department and she was telling me how they had $30,000 worth of shrink ( I guess that means lost inventory) in a month

I have news for you, they actually can get them cheaper. Amazing brainwashing going around to think that Wal-mart is the lowest price around. And yea, the sellers who spend countless hours trying to find the right sources will just openly tell you where they got it from.. Right.

Heh...a friend of a friend of a friend (how's that for a connection) out here in Chi-town works at some unloading docks (not sure which, or for what). Every few weeks some things "fall off the back of the truck" and make their way into his hands. With the prices he charges, I could probably make $500 a week just selling "lost" merchandise.

Edit: But of course I'd never do that...

No way is walmart only making 2-3 dollars per pack of razors. With their buying power, they're probably buying them for half that price. But one of the reasons why things can be cheaper on ebay is that there isn't any overhead for a store, inventory, etc Or maybe somebody got a great deal on a liquidation. I don't doubt that there is hot stuff on ebay, but it wouldn't be mass quantity stuff like razors lol

Great, you bring this up right as I'm about to buy an amp off ebay :p I can't imagine too many criminals would be stupid enough to do that though. What's dumber than leaving an uber clear e-trail for the police  Then again, being stupid is why most of them are criminals.
