Hey Guys,

I'm planning on buying a laptop and some imaging software (like photoshop, etc.). I went on ebay, and found this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAP...item=1290812838

Do you think its a good deal -- it seems awesome to me. Also, what are some tips on winning an ebay auction (since this is the first time I'm doing this).

Thanks.

I think your link is wrong.

But is it this one?

I don't know about you but a 400 K6 processor wouldn't last you very long... especially with those programs included...and what's up with the windowsXP wallpaper doctored in...LOL...yah its very sharp alright.

Hehe. Imaging software, Photoshop will choke that laptop to death.

You need to be more specific as to HOW FAST you want your software to run.
I would not even get a laptop for imaging apps because of the way LCDs change how images look. Also, laptops are known to cost much more and be much slower than similarly-spec'ed desktops.

Assuming you want pretty fast processing in Photoshop and similar programs, your specs will be:

800 MHz+ processor
128 MB RAM absolute minimum - 256 or more highly recommended
10 GB HD - more highly recommended, Photoshop files can get HUUUGE
14" Active-Matrix, 15" recommended
You will want to use an external mouse for sure, because any kind of built-in pointer gives terrible precision, especially when every pixel matters.

... Based on the specs, it will be something around $1000, probably much more ($1500?).

I would NOT buy a laptop on Ebay because it may come without certain parts like a floppy or battery or recharger.

Hope this helps!

Something ain't right with that auction. PC133 RAM - FAST it says. I don't think that an AMD K6 would be running on even a 100MHz bus in a laptop. My P2 400 laptop is only on a 66.6MHz bus. And he photos are doctored to put the images on the screen; I tend not to like it when people do more to an image than adjusting brightness and contrast to compensate for a bad scanner/camera. Could be perfectly legit though in terms of the seller's integrity.
But that kind of laptop isn't too good for photoshop; something like the specs VBboy gave are better suited to photo software.

First off, for the tasks you wish to do, a desktop would be better suited for it as VBboy pointed out.

Secondly, I would not buy something that's over $100 from a seller that has ZERO ratings since you might get scammed. :( Also, the pictures looked very "doctored" as in the seller photo edited the pictures. Also, as VBboy pointed out, buying a laptop on eBay is dangerous since you might not get the AC adapter or battery since it is not stated nor pictured anywhere in the auction. Also, the fact that the seller advertises the laptop coming with "$4500 of software", is kind of suspicious since there is no pictures of the software, and therefore unless you specifically ask the seller, my best guess is that he's selling illegal copies (Warez) of the software with the laptop. :Q

In almost all sense, the auction that you listed is one that you should stay far far far away from. :( And besides, you need a desktop to do the imaging processing. ;)

Let me know if you need any more help via PM or email. :)

a few thoughts, partly repeating what has laready been said...

1) that laptop is very underpowered to handle what you want to do...a desktop is recommended unless you NEED portability. also, it states it has a 4.3gig hard drive which doesn't seem big enough to actually install all the software that it comes with.

2) the price is worth it for the software alone...if it is all legitimate, which is a big risk to take!

3) while he might be the perfect seller, a high dollar trade with 0 feedback is also risky

overall, it might seem tempting but i think you should keep looking...
