you get too attached to it and get depressed, especially when you fiish reading it?

i still get the sad empty feeling when i think about a sci-fi novel i read years ago in high school for an assignment.

in fact i'm now afraid to try new books or games for fear of getting attached.

is this normal?

You're weird. I avoid reading books because I'll start them, read 100 or so pages, and never get around to finishing it. It takes a really really good book to motivate me to finish it.

Sometimes, I feel sad that a good story came to an end, as I want it to last forever, but besides that, no.

Depends on the book...I've read books that I wish would never end, but I got over it ;)

Arthur C. Clark - "Songs of Distant Earth". Hm, check out "The City and the Stars" if you liked "Songs".

Happened to me when I read the Thomas Covenent Chronicals by Stephen R Donaldson. but that was... hellfire,... over 20yrs ago.

Even after I finished reading, it was like part of me was still in that world. And when I was done with them all, I was very sad.

i'm not sure if i "liked" it. i just found parts of it depressing (mainly the great distances). especially the ending...

eh i think i need a stronger grip on reality.. and try to stop my habit of overanalyzing which makes enjoying stories (books/tv etc) tiring

if the book is good i get that feeling. you're really sad that you have to move on and can't read it anymore.

That's happened to me before when I've been really involved in the story line. You just have to realize that all good books must end, and there are lots more good books waiting to be read. :)

I read a lot, and very occasionally this happens to me too. Maybe not exactly depression but it can last an entire evening.

I felt this way after reading Dune and Ender's Game.
