This thread along with some internal family discussions right now, got me thinking... do people really do this as adults? Say "I want this and that for Christmas."? Just doesn't seem generally right.
I know the arguments will be "why should they guess on what to buy me and just have me return it then?" and I will counter with if they don't know what you would like, whats the point in them buying you a gift?
For kids sure, they are the ones that should be the ones getting gifts IMHO. Adults? Generally speaking, I guess I don't overly see it as "necessary" in today's day and age.
I'm not being a scrooge either. In fact there is no time of the season I enjoy more than the holidays (evident by the decorations on/in my house). I completely enjoy the season for what it was/is intended... enjoying friends and family, not being lavished (or lavishing people) with gifts.
