Do you take the Metro?

I need to know everything about taking the metro. I know there's 2-4 bus stops nearby me.. and I think one of them goes to the Pentagon. My destination is Maryland (from VA).

Is there some type of metro bus pass that I can use for a year? What are the costs?

TY in advance.

you can buy fares (tickets) and you specify how much money/denomination you want on it. when you go through the gates on the Metro, it will automatically subtract the appropriate fee. you can also get a Smartcard where you can keep reloading dollar amounts on it to use on the Metro (i've never tried this). the costs depend on how far you're going/how many stops you have to make.

metro??

I drive my own vehicle to work, 12-15 min commute,
on a normal day.

I would take the bus if it would get me to work in less than 15 mins, door to door.

LOL; Thats not going to happen, I would have to transfer buses.
40 mins by bus for the Loss.

I do believe the SmarTrip card is the way to go - it's the one that you can reload with credit and can use for bus transfers/Metro parking lots.

Be careful if going past the main tourist area of D.C. on the Metro from VA. I guy I know who works at the Pentagon and takes the Metro in every day from Maryland (not sure which line it is, but I know it's not the red line coming from the Rockville area). One day on the ride in to work, a roving gang of thugs came through the car and stole everybodies wallet, watches, and jewelry and got off at the next stop. Security sucks on the Metro.

Otherwise, it's relatively safe everywhere west of L'Enfant Plaza and in VA.

I live between Friendship Heights and Tenleytown stop.... it just makes more sense to take River Rd to the Beltway, Wisconsin to the Beltway (depending on time of day, River is sometimes easier), or drive through DC on Foxhall to the Key Bridge - all are faster, even during rush hour, than the claustraphobia inducing metro.

I have a light rail station within walking distance of my house. I can take it to center city far faster than via car, and for only $7.50 round trip, off peak. It connects to the airport. I love it.
